1920's
I’m curious what you all think about men’s fashion in the 1920s? This thought was sparked by the show Peaky Blinders (and the new movie, which I have yet to watch). I know the wardrobe in the show is stylized to look ā€œcool,ā€ but it got me thinking about something. What caused men to stop dressing up? If you look at photos of men from roughly 1910–1940, there’s a noticeable difference. Suits, hats, structured clothing. It wasn’t just fashion; it was a sense of respect and presence. Today, that level of effort feels rare. My initial thought is that the decline in dress standards relates to major economic and cultural changes: the rise of more casual workplaces, evolving social norms, and shifting ideas about class and identity. However, I wonder if these reasons fully capture the change. Here’s what I’m really wondering: Is there a place for 1920s-style fashion today? Would wearing that level of dress (even casually, like to the grocery store) just come off as a costume now? Or is it only ā€œstrangeā€ because no one does it anymore? So what I am wondering… What if a group of guys just decided to bring it back? Not as a gimmick, but as a standard. Dressing well not to stand out but to show respect for themselves and others. If people asked why, and the answer was simply: ā€œBecause I want to present myself with respect.ā€ Do you think that could actually shift how people view men’s fashion over time? Or is that era gone for good? P.S. I am not knocking anyone's fashion in this group, and everyone is looking like a BOSS in their chosen style. And the people here who are learning every day, you are in the right spot. I have been checking in with RMRS for about 10 years now, and it has helped me tremendously.

@Mike Thompson I have the same concern. All my friends are wearing flat caps.

I tend toward darker colors. Not anything that light, BUT it looks very good on you. The fit and the hang is good. Thumbs up @Chad Smith
Yesterday’s Vibe!
We went to visit some friends on the Bay in Fairhope Alabama yesterday and it was beautiful out! Had to snap a few pics! I’m so grateful for life, family, friends and what the Creator created for all of us to enjoy. Don’t ever take 1 minute for granted because we’re not promised the next. Always wake up with an attitude of gratitude and make the most out of life. We’re only here for a short time so we have to enjoy it while we’re here! Have the best day guys!

I have now seen every James Bond 007 film. Now, Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery are my favorites, but Timothy Dalton is fantastic, too. Hopefully, Henry Cavill is the next 007. šŸ¤žšŸ»šŸŽ„ Although I haven’t seen the original Casino Royale with David Niven, I grant that Daniel Craig was terrific, and Skyfall was his best adaptation.

I'm right there with you brother @Shaf Karim I spent my entire adult life in blue collar (and blue jeans). Now that I'm retired and following my dream of being a writer, I'm upping my wardrobe and style. Now it's me, who my sister waits on to finish in the thrift stores when we shop. I'm in men's clothing checking what it's made of, and that the seams aren't frayed. Big grin when I find a good vintage item to add to the closet.

Here to learn and here to help. I ran a resilient living website for 10 years. I go dark Monday afternoons (mostly). Say hi, and let's share ideas.
