SOTD- Friday October 16th: Rayhaan Vantage
It’s been awhile since I’ve picked up something new, and I’ve been wanting to experiment with different DNAs. Heard a lot about how great Amouage Decision is, but I haven't ever been a fan of the house. Some of their stuff is a bit too funky for me. Decision is supposed to be a good introduction to the house for people like me. I’ve been looking for samples for so long, but everywhere has been sold out. Enter Rayhaan Vantage… Saw a few reviews and posts in other forums about it, and people who like Decision have spoken highly about this one. I’ve heard it’s not a 1:1 but stands very well on its own as a fragrance anyway. Luckily, I was able to find this at my local discounter who just got one in. So far, I’m really enjoying it. The opening has a nice pop of orange along with a spicy sweetness. As it settles down, it gets sweeter and sweeter. The drydown is a nice, spicy vanilla sweetness with a middle eastern edge. Definitely has some projection the first 3 hours or so but after that, settles close to the skin for a pleasant incense sweetness. That sweetness lingers on skin for about 10 hours. My wife said it was ok, but she prefers the super mass appealing stuff. Wore this yesterday afternoon out and about and got two unsolicited compliments from strangers. Wearing it this morning again and have already received one. I’m sure it’s no where near Amouage quality, but it definitely makes me want to try the real deal. This one might be a big winner!

I'm hooked on Amouage. I think it's the frankincense that I'm into. Even the ones that start out funky dry down to some form of that frankincense and I could sniff that all day, lol. The drawback is my wife doesn't care for it; she likes the mass appealing stuff too.
Reaching bottom of the sample
So I've been searching for a professional office daily driver and I found myself glued to Creed's Original Vetiver. For my taste, I dont need a lot of sprays and I can live with 6 hours of longevity. What I crave is the scent itself and the mood it puts me end. And OV was really scratching that itch for me, so when the sample I have of it ran out today, I had my first "empty bottle" experience. I've been at this hobby now for about a year and it's time to buy the full bottle.

@Mike Penzenik For me it opens with a "Wow" factor. A lady shopper at Dillards recommended it because her husband likes it and when the I smelled it I literally said "wow". I like the vibrant burst of bergamot and it just has an uplifting smoothness to it that maintains as it shifts over to the vetiver. Its a traditional barbershop type; clean fresh and great for the office without any harsh rough edges.

@Lon Chaneyfield Thanks Lon, and thanks to you and all the guys here who share their lessons learned over years of experience. It's helped me keep some extra pizza money in my pocket instead of chasing every clone, every influencer recommendation, and think about what I want in a fragrance. I know OV has its limitations in areas, but like every good Quarterback coach will tell you, every QB has its flaw...its whether you can live with it or not. P.S. Bottle purchased.
Moncler Sunrise pour Homme Moncler
Good morning gentlemen. Decided to wear this to work today one of my favorites. It could quite easily a signature scent of mine.

I sampled this one and like the brightness of it. For me I found it a tad sweet for all season but it fit wonderfully in springtime.
D&G The One EDP
The old one. I’m going to grab a couple bottles of this since I like it more than the reformulation. This stuff is pure class! I feel like a gentleman who has his life together and tbh I’d pay anything for that feeling most days 😂

Keeping track
Hi everyone, pretty new to the world of perfume so still lots of stuff to discover & learn. Now I was wondering how you keep track of the perfumes you've smelled? I tend to make lists and notes so I have this note where I write some stuff, but it feels very chaotic since my explanations for some smells aren't very detailed ("smells too sporty for me" for example). So: where do you keep track? And what are the things you make sure to jot down regarding your opinion on specific perfumes?

I'm new too but I keep an excel spreadsheet and just use my own words to try to explain it to myself. I was looking at it yesterday and I had put a comment once of "smells like a perfectly shaped pair of fake breasts" and "reminds me of that rich kid's dad" for Tom Ford's Italian Cypress. Lol. I also add on new comments everytime I try one and use a color code system to see if I like it better or less than the last time. I'm thinking I also need a column to document the time of season I tested a scent.

@Joppe Beeckmans For now I use a color gradient scale of green for ones I like. My nose isn't advanced enough to use numerical ratings that would be of value to me. I'm mainly categorizing the ones I like in tiers, and then I work towards comparing them against each other to rack and stack them. Right now, my personal comments on how the fragrance makes me feel are of most value to me. That, and I document the ones my wife says she likes on me.
