With Easter around the corner it’s a good time to talk about spiritual fitness. Having just got back from another week of profound healing and recovery I wanted to share some insights and spark a conversation. Last week I spent in Mexico with 14 first responders and veterans to do some BJJ and heal from a long journey of pain and loss. It’s my second time doing the retreat with Dave and Cordi from Becoming Om. Last year, I had the most profound religious experience of my life there, so I was excited to go back. What I’ve realized since beginning my coaching career is that we silo ourselves into 3 buckets: physical, mental and spiritual. When I started coaching I was focused on reps and macros, then I realized none of that matters if your mental health is in shambles and now I realize that both of those are difficult to manage if your spiritual fitness is lacking. The trinity. Something Christians are familiar with, is similar for our health too. Physical Health, Mental Health, Spiritual Health. The U.S. Army has a manual on it. I’m not sure if Canada does but if so, please share. The U.S. military recognizes that physical strength and mental toughness can only get you so far when the chips are down. That’s where spirituality and faith come in. I became a lot closer to my faith in the last years. It’s helped me significantly navigate life but also improved my health overall. It’s a stress reducer. My question to you is simple. Have you been able to improve your spiritual fitness since leaving your service?
