When I was practicing to get my driver's license my driving instructor always used to tell me to "stop inventing things" when I said things like "oh but I thought I need to be doing ___" Honestly, the same goes for YouTube. Until you've reached a level where you understand the game, just follow the rules of what works. Then you can innovate and start inventing things.
