How Well Do Your Tailors Know You?
General question, how well do your tailors know you as a person? Is it normal for them to generally take a bit of an interest in your work so they can make conversation or better suit your needs? I just called the suit shop I went to a bit over a week ago and they knew who I was by my voice and company but have only been there once so far 🤣. I don't find it creepy but being new to this, I didn't know if it's the same level as a repeat barber who's super chatty or not.

@Dr. Jason Cole I’d tell him you said so, but that may just result in me paying more, so… I also text casually with my financial advisor and my jeweler, and occasionally (rarely) my accountant. Before you psychoanalyze me and tell me I need more friends, I have those too. I’d like to think I treat professionals well, and I develop relationships with those who I spend with, and those who safeguard my money.

@Dr. Jason Cole I appreciate that, thank you — I do work at it. Cheers, 🥂
What’s the most $$ you’ve spent on a pillow?
I know this post doesn’t have a lot to do with style. But maybe in some aspects it does?? A man needs to be well rested in order to get up and take on his daily tasks. I saw this pillow on my most recent trip to The Bahamas and held off getting it but I kept going back to the website and “dreaming” about it. I mean, it’s almost $140 after tax. I’m normally a $15-$20 range for my pillows. I finally pulled the trigger and I’m here to tell you it’s the most comfortable pillow I have ever owned and I slept better than I have in probably a year. If you’re a hot sleeper or have any issues with neck or back pain in the mornings you should really look into grabbing one of these! https://www.cariloha.com/cariloha-gel-pillow

I think I’m in for ~$150 for the Beauty rest Black
Oh yeah…
New shoe day. My first pair of whole-cut Oxfords. These are from TLB Mallorca. Their lasted shoe trees are even works of art. Perfect time to wear these around the house to break them in. The brass tacks in the heal are elegant and basically just for me. I can easily see becoming addicted to new shoe day!

@Dr. Jason Cole you don’t like straight bar lacing? It is a more elegant and formal way of lacing shoes.
Sartorial education for my boys
Tonight I began (at least made it more official and when and why) discussing dressing well. My dad did, but he never talked about it (kind of a typical stoic man for his era) and I probably would have ignored it. I did t say that some day they would have to dress like this or anything fear generating. Instead, I said that if and when you ever to decide, you might remember these discussions. If I’m still around, I will gladly help. As my father passed say in his 50s, I don’t want to to make presumptions that delay my conversations with them. The topic is based on one item in my outfit. As I am wearing a pink puppytooth Winchester shirt, we went with the shirt. How does it differ from a normal one, history, the “power suit” of the 80s (the whole house loves the 80s). That was it. I didn’t want it to drag on. Or so I thought that was it. My older son asked about the pattern (tiny houndstooth) and so I shared that. My younger son asked about it being pink. He actually wears a pink hoodie for his travel baseball team (just swag wear), so was curious if other guys wear pink in their suits. Blew me away that, not only did they not object, but they asked questions.

@Dr. Jason Cole sounds like a wonderful moment with your boys. I’d like to think that it is those exact kinds of moments that will stay with them — not necessarily one or two specific conversations, but someday them reflecting back on the many, many times you discussed it with them. On New Year’s Eve I let my Fiancée’s son (age 10) try on my sport coat (Size 40) — of course he was swimming in it, but he walked over to his sister (age 7) to ask her how he looked — in a similar manner, I’d like to think that someday they will think back to those sorts of moments and cherish them. Wishing you many years of good health so that you may someday have similar moments with your grandkids. Cheers, 🥂
