I would add that, for some institutions, having the CELTA might even be an undesirable advantage because it might be too different from the set methodology the school uses (like reading scripts from the teacher’s manual or focusing on drilling more than anything else).

@Andrew Woodbury I have worked at a franchised language center that had pre-made scripts in the teacher’s manuals we used for classes. Having a CELTA at that school had the same value as not having it. 🤷🏻♀️ The school I currently work at understands the added value of the certificate but won’t necessarily reward specifically because of it. So I feel this is the kind of thing we would do more to check that internal box of “I need to have this paper to validate what I know I can do”. And I’m not saying this (taking the course or being certified) is a bad thing. It’s just that it all depends on what the end goal is.

Hello everyone
My name is Dafny and I struggle a lot with the idea of entrepreneurship. The idea of being my own boss has always sounded a bit too unattainable. I’ve been an English teacher for 15 years and have been working at the same school for 12. I enjoy what I do there (I am currently teaching and coordinating one of our branches) but I’d like to have more freedom with my schedule. My husband has a filmmaking company and travels a lot. My end goal is to be able to join him whilst still having my own thing. I have zero business ideas. 🫣😂 I hope that, in joining this community, I’ll be able to see what happens when we choose to step out of our comfort zone and get some guidance on how to do that.

@Igor Ivanov wow! That’s a really interesting thing you did! I love how you broke something big into a smaller, more attainable task. That’s a lot more doable. :)
