Commended Entries: First Announcement
Many, many entries this cycle, well beyond what we had anticipated, and the standard of the writing has made winnowing the longlist unusually difficult. Thank you to everyone who trusted us with their opening pages. The quality was so high that the commended list is longer than in previous cycles. We are releasing the names in no particular order, over the coming days, and a shortlist will be drawn from this group. Today, in no particular order, we are announcing: - Lies on Sale by Gabby Martini - The Impossibility of Eden by Harry Wilson - Beach Dog by Tom McDonough - The Breaking Point by Fiona Harriet - The Taste of Iron by Ramona Slusarczyk - Askar and the Witch by Nina van der Beek - The City of a Thousand Eyes by Angelique Talbot - The Melusine Murders by Jesse Weiner Congratulations to all of them. Many further entries, equally commended, will be announced over the coming days. If your name is not yet here, please don't read into its absence. Names are being released in the order we can write the posts, which has nothing to do with preference, and every remaining commendation carries the same weight as those above.

Congratulations everyone. Excited to see how the rest of the list shapes up.
Book launch
A little celebration that I hope doesn’t break any rules… my novel, Perotine, was one of the top ten shortlisted in last year’s competition. It was subsequently picked up by a small publisher, and launches on Tuesday. This weekend, I’ve travelled from Jersey (home) to Gloucester to give two talks and then in the coming weeks I’ve got two appearances at home, plus a trip to the Guernsey Literary festival to discuss the book. In May, I’m also making several appearances in Wales. Exciting and very busy times! 📚 I’ve also dropped my Marlowe and C placement in several times in my promo. 😄 Good luck to everyone, this year!

Bots
Be aware there are ‘bots’ opening in this forum.

Even more concerning than the 2 seconds it takes to realise authors like Barbara Kingsolver pr Margaret Atwood wouldn't offer to brainstorm story ideas 'they like the look of' (on X) are the bots that hide under the guise of being everyday editors for hire. In my mind some photos just look so perfect they can't be genuine people🤣even without reading their interactions. Before you send your work to anyone, and definitely before you pay them, do thorough research on their experience and genuine satisfied clients, or go through reputable sites like Reedsy for services.
Harper Collins Author Academy, anyone?
I meant to ask this a while ago, but did anyone on here get accepted for the Harper Collins Author Academy this year? I got waitlisted/longlisted for it, which I was thrilled by, but just wondered whether anyone else enters this sort of thing, as it would be nice to have company! I've just entered the Write Mentor competition too. 😁

Congratulations @Petra Glover and @Shannon Tatenda . I didn't get wait listed but received an email saying that my entry scored highly but had just missed out. It made me wonder if they used any sort of second round offers so good to know that they do. It seems to be a very high standard so hopefully someone will get agented etc before the time comes up and you might get on it. Keep us posted!

@Petra Glover thanks. Apart from getting agented, can't imagine why anyone would pull out because it's such a good opportunity. It's definitely something to include in query letters so is good kudos at least.
Contest Feedback
Has anyone else not received their feedback yet, or is it just me?
