Hunting and fitness
I like to train in the gym with the goal in mind to be able to go farther, stay longer, and have the strength and endurance to hold my bow at full draw with prefect form for an extended period of time. I don’t want my body to be one of the reasons I miss a shot on an animal. Does anyone else train with this mindset in the off season and what kind of programs are you running to reach your goals.

If you hunt mountains. I wouldn’t recommend recommend always training for your hunts. Packing moose, Caribou, Deer or sheep long distances in mountains is grueling and in some places a quick way to never make it home especially if snow is involved. Shooting every day aside a few months before big hunts I would get a heavy vest or whatever pack you plan to use add weights and go on hikes or find a treadmill put it at max incline and practice going until you can’t. I’d rather find my limit close to home then find my limit where I can’t even be recovered.
Hunting guide
Just thought I’d throw this out. If anyone is looking to come up to AK and hunt it’s quite expensive to get a guide for even basic hunting. As a resident and the fact I’m training to be a guide I can help anyone that is interested. Fun fact you either need a guide or a resident to be with you on hunts up here. I’m working on making a network of archery hunters up here that want to see the last frontier but not spend 5k plus to get the opportunity. I’m just starting out on this adventure. just seeing if any group members are interested.

It’s absolutely an experience to bow hunt AK. I lived up there for 6 years and am now in Utah but have family that I go hunting with out there. If you plan on a Dalton hunt I would absolutely wait until bear season and have tags for them before you go. I wouldn’t recommend that hunt though unless road hunting and having people shoot over you while hunting sounds fun to you.😅 Deadhorse dining is great though.
