@Linda Flores I’ve found that dividing up the combos we get thrown into mini bite-size elements helps me retain the moves. Like if there’s a combo with a Suzy q, flares, styled right turn, spiral, etc… after the class, I’ll try to drill the same shine combo but with a basic between each move that way I learn how to get in and out of that, then I can take what I like and leave what I don’t. I am so visibly expressive to a fault sometimes 😭 like if a lead throws me a new move that I didn’t know I could do, my face looks so shocked or giggly 😂. And if I’m running out of breath, I look like I’m not having a good time when in fact I enjoy pushing past my limits! I try to avoid any misunderstanding in socials by 1. defaulting to a soft smile, and 2. letting the lead know as soon as they ask me to dance whether I’m up for it or if I feel the need to rest or drink water. It happened to me two weeks ago in a social, a lead asked me as I was bolting for my water bottle after 4 fast songs in a row. I told him with a smile 😬 “I reeeally need to drink some water and breathe” and he stayed, waited for me to drink, then we were able to have a nice dance without faking any smiles.
