Turning vs. Spinning in Salsa 😵‍💫
Is there really a difference? And how the h*@! do I not get dizzy? 😵 Watch "Turning 101 Course" HERE to get started 🥳 Do you want more courses like this? I’ve got a few more class requests lined up already 😂 Keep them coming—I’m slow but steady with uploads. Just like those turns 😁

How can I learn Shines/Combo faster?
Ever wonder why some dancers pick things up SO FAST in class? What I’ve noticed is that many dancers are missing a huge piece of the learning process. I’ve taught hundreds of dancers how to learn faster and more effectively in class — from students who struggle with a single 8-count to dancers who can learn any Shines & choreography almost instantly that even shocked me🤯 Does this sound like your experience? Or do you have any tips that have helped you learn faster? Drop them below 👇 and I’ll share my methodology in a blog inside the “To Answer Your Questions…” course!

Yesss I’ve always wondered this!!! I feel like in classes and workshops, I can remember and execute the combos, and for so long I’ve been doing more classes and more combos, but on the dance floor I don’t see any of those shines come out! Like in the studio I can recall weeks worth of combos but when it’s time to shine, I go blank. 🥲 Can’t wait to hear your tips 🙏🏼

@Maggie Zhang Right! Like I wonder if it’s just a matter of drilling them? Idk I would love to feel free expressing musicality without thinking too much

Shines vs. Partnerwork
I recently had a student tell me, “I don’t really see the point of doing shines. I just want to learn partnerwork—it's not like I’ll actually use shines when I’m social dancing, so why bother?” I have plenty of thoughts on this, but I’d love to hear yours first. Do you enjoy shines, partnerwork, or both? And do you think shines are important to practice? Let's discuss 🎙️💭

@Peiwei Cobo That means so much coming from you! 🫶🏼 thank you! I’d love for us all to share our journeys over food or something. Dance conveniently appeared in my life when it was almost completely empty, so it easily just took over. Having a curious and investigative mind helps a lot too 😊

@Linda Flores I’ve found that dividing up the combos we get thrown into mini bite-size elements helps me retain the moves. Like if there’s a combo with a Suzy q, flares, styled right turn, spiral, etc… after the class, I’ll try to drill the same shine combo but with a basic between each move that way I learn how to get in and out of that, then I can take what I like and leave what I don’t. Hope that helps 😊 you’re in the best hands now with Peiwei!
