Charitable Solicitations Act - Registration Required
Let's make sure your nonprofit is legally compliant as it relates to soliciting. A Charitable Solicitations Act is a state law that requires charities to register with the state before they can solicit donations from the public. These laws aim to ensure transparency and accountability in fundraising by regulating how organizations collect funds and protect the public from fraud. While the specifics vary by state, these acts often require registration, periodic financial reporting, and may impose additional requirements for professional fundraisers or charitable sales promotions. States that do NOT require Charitable Solicitations Registration: - Delaware - Idaho - Indiana - Iowa - Montana - Nebraska - South Dakota - Vermont - Wyoming  Click here to find the department that you must register for, or the PDF is available for download. This is the resource provided by the IRS website.

great resource! I just saved it to remind me to re-register each year

@Cathy Anderson I’ll have to do that! Thanks for the tip.
Canva Pro FREEEEEEEE!!!
One of the fun things to do…ok I love it, but you can gather a volunteer(s) to help design your social media posts. Older youth up to 21 or so are great with this. Especially, leading up to GivingTuesday. Add a little ChatGPT and you have your content. Remember, you can batch produce and have 30 days worth of post in no time. My point is, use your FREE Canva Pro account. No more excuses. https://www.canva.com/canva-for-nonprofits/ Well, that leads to another video coming soon!

@Cathy Anderson I need to work on my video editing skills. It would allow me to drop my Loom subscription.

🗓️ Friday, November 28, 2025 • 7 PM Central Hey Impact Makers! 👋🏾💜 It’s officially time to get your nonprofit ready for the biggest giving day of the year — GivingTuesday! We’re kicking off a focused, powerful 5-Day Mini Fundraising Challenge designed to help you build real momentum, activate your supporters, and raise meaningful funds leading into D-Day: GivingTuesday. 💸 What This Challenge Is: A guided, small-but-mighty Facebook fundraising sprint that helps you: ✅ Verify and optimize your Facebook Page ✅ Set a clear, achievable fundraising goal ✅ Launch your mini fundraiser for the GivingTuesday window ✅ Build real engagement using storytelling and visibility ✅ Go LIVE or post quick videos each day ✅ Show up consistently — so donors do the same 🔥 The Purpose: GivingTuesday is D-Day — your fundraising launchpad. Everything we do in the challenge leads up to that moment. By the time Tuesday arrives, you’ll be confident, visible, and ready to welcome donations. 📆 What You’ll Do Each Day: Each day, you’ll complete 1–2 small actions that move your fundraiser forward. You will also post your progress in the classroom section for the specific day and record a short video or LIVE stream to share your journey with your audience. No perfection. Just presence. Is your organization “Googlable”?
Ok, so maybe that’s not a real word but I think you get my point. This post is for those who actually have a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. Weekend challenge: 1. Type your nonprofit name into Google search. 2. New search: Type your nonprofit name and the city and state of where the nonprofit is registered. 3 Create social media pages for your nonprofit if you do not have one for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn. TikTok is optional but encouraged. These must be created from your personal and FB will need to be verified.- The reason I asked you to do this is because funders will do this basic search when you are requesting funding. Also, when you have a fundraising event or even a community event, potential donors and attendees will do the same. Social media is free and the foundation of awareness which often leads to building credibility. In this current climate, the latter is critical. Although I didn’t add this to the list, you may want to Google your name and the organization together. Just remember, on the Internet there is no way to separate your personal image from your professional image. You are a leader of influence! As much as you feel comfortable, share in the comments what you were surprised to find. If you found other nonprofits with the same or a similar name share whether they were more or less visible than your organization. Lastly, if you experienced an ‘ah-hah’ moment during any part of this process, feel free to share in the comments.

@Cathy Anderson I’m just getting going and am in the middle of getting approved for google for nonprofits. I’ll make a note about the google profile thing.

Do You Have a Newsletter or CRM Yet?
Let’s talk about something every nonprofit needs… but too many skip until they’re already drowning. 🥴 A newsletter + CRM system (like Mailchimp, MailerLite, Kit, Zeffy, etc.) isn’t just “nice to have.” It’s the backbone of your communication, your donor relationships, and your ability to raise money on purpose—not by accident. 💡 What’s a CRM, really? A CRM (Customer/Client/Constituent Relationship Management) system is simply: A tool that helps you store, track, and manage relationships with your donors, volunteers, partners, clients, and supporters… all in one place. Think of it like your nonprofit’s brain 🧠—except it doesn’t forget things. A good CRM lets you: ✔ Keep track of donors and supporters ✔ Send newsletters + updates consistently ✔ Track who opens, clicks, gives, or attends ✔ Automate follow-ups ✔ Warm your audience long before you ever ask for funding ✔ Stop relying on your memory, your notes app, or that one board member who still uses Yahoo. 😅 🗣️ Here’s today’s question for the group: Do you already have a CRM or newsletter system? If yes—drop which one you're using. If not—what’s holding you back? There’s no judgment here—just clarity, growth, and better systems so you can raise more money with less stress. 🙌 Let’s talk about it ⬇️

I use Go High Level for my community here on Skool, I run my webpage and my side business using it. GHL has a ton of features and does almost everything I need it to do. I plan on starting a newsletter in the new year, I've just had so much going on that I haven't been able to sit down and make plans for it or advertise. But that is part of my plans for December. I want my first newsletter to go out January 1 and GHL will be running that also. I'm a new nonprofit and am just now building out my systems. I have a GrantStation account as well as the free version of Givebutter.

@Cathy Anderson I didn’t start out as a nonprofit. Plus, a sub-account through GHL comes with one of my Skool subscriptions.
