Ashita no Joe vs Dragon Ball - Anime Battle 2025
Choose which you think is better, which you prefer or which seems like you want to try watching the most. 🔥 Anime Tournament – Round 1 Matchup 🔥 Today’s battle:🥊 Ashita no Joe vs 🐉 Dragon Ball Two legends. Two very different eras. Only one can move on. 🥊 Ashita no Joe (あしたのジョー) A true classic of Japanese anime and manga history. Ashita no Joe is more than a boxing story—it’s a raw, emotional exploration of struggle, pride and what it means to burn brightly, even if the cost is high. Why it’s worthy: - One of the most influential anime ever made in Japan - Deep, realistic storytelling focused on human emotion and perseverance - Iconic themes of grit, sacrifice, and finding meaning through struggle - Still referenced in Japanese pop culture decades later This is anime as literature. Heavy. Powerful. Unforgettable. If you have time, please watch the video essay on Ashita no Joe below. It really shows the impact of the manga and anime. 🐉 Dragon Ball (ドラゴンボール) The anime that shaped generations. Dragon Ball blends adventure, humour, martial arts and epic growth into a story that became a global phenomenon. Why it’s worthy: - Introduced many fans worldwide to anime for the first time - Legendary characters like Goku, Vegeta and Krillin (I like his hairstyle) - A perfect mix of fun, training arcs, friendship and escalating stakes - Laid the foundation for modern shōnen anime This is anime as pure energy and imagination—joyful, iconic and endlessly rewatchable. 🗳️ Your Turn! Which anime do you prefer? - Do you vote for the raw realism and emotional weight of Ashita no Joe? - Or the adventurous spirit and cultural impact of Dragon Ball? - 💬 Cast your vote in the poll and feel free to defend your choice in the comments—just remember to keep it respectful! 明日はどっちだ!?(Which one will survive tomorrow!?) 🔥

This is a difficult choice for me. I have watched so much Dragon Ball. But, for me, Ashita no Joe is very special. It was the first manga I read in Japanese. My friend from Nagoya University was shocked that I hadn't read it and so he took me straight to the manga cafe to start reading it. haha. I read through the series, enjoyed it very much and it was very emotional. So when I think of it, I remember those days and I'm also inspired by Joe's grit. If you haven't tried reading it, I highly recommend it. The anime isn't on crunchyroll or netflix. It is hard to find, it seems. If you find it, let us know, please!! I'll have to save up and buy it on dvd. After I watch it, I'll be glad to post it to whomever wishes to watch it. Also, in Japan, I enjoyed singing the theme song at karaoke! 😅 That's why I'm voting for あしたのジョー!

@Fenny Kirmil I think that is the type of story I can appreciate now, but when I was a kid, I just wanted to read tough guy stories. haha. 😅

@Psych Butterfly Then the first 50 sentences course. That'll help your pronunciation and is a good foundation for learning grammar.

2026 Upcoming Projects
Mina san, Konnichiwa! (Everyone, hello!) We've joined this group because we want to learn Japanese. We all have different reasons and different motivations, but we have one clear goal: we want to be able to use Japanese fluently. I am excited about making resources that will help you achieve that goal. However, it takes time and energy. I hope what I've been providing so far has been useful and here is my plan for the near future. Most of these will be free courses. Please take a look and let me know what you think and what you're excited for. Arigatou, Joe Sensei.
