🧞 Don't Wish People Will Want Your Products
When I first got into helping people with video content I targeted CPAs and accountants. (which seems crazy now, but then it make a lot of sense). I knew there was such a huge potential for them. NO ONE in their industry does it right. So anyone CPA or accountant could jump into the game and be #1 almost overnight. But you know what? Even the ones that said they wanted to do it, didn't really want to. They would join, and quit. I'd here that... marketing doesn't work for our industry (after 3 videos). Or, I'm busy... I've heard it all. I'm all about encouraging people, but enough was enough. I learned I was NEVER going to breakthrough in this industry. So I stopped offering services to them. Even now I get CPAs and accountants booking calls with me, asking me all these questions, going on and on. It's actually ironic, this group, also seeks the most free advice as well. Then barely does anything with it. So now when I get on sales calls with a CPA I get off pretty quick. I even mentioned that I don't work with CPAs and accountants and the basic reason why. I'm always looking for a sign to see if they will stand up and say they are different. But the conversations still usually lead to a place where I know I won't be able to help. And no offense to CPAs, do your thing. But I feel better knowing where I can win and where I can't, and putting my energy where it's appreciated and valued. In fact I had a call today—and man, it was so refreshing knowing exactly where I stand, what my value is and laying it on the table. Lesson learned, don't wish your product will be loved by any group. Really validate and make sure your tribe actually cares. And do that as quickly as possible.
