Dry through a difficult day
I’ve had some tough few days and today I’ve been struggling with the after effects of my nervous system going totally haywire. I’ve been trying to manage it but it’s been up and down regardless. I found myself craving beer so badly just out of nowhere. I’ve learned to actually listen to what my cravings are saying to me, and it usually isn’t that I want a beer. It’s just the knee-jerk to ignoring it all. I drove the 20 miles into town just to buy club soda to kick the craving and there was no club soda in the store. 😭😭😭 So, I left and I walked in the liquor store….and walked out with 0.0% NA beer. I know some people don’t agree with NA beer but it was a win for me to get through this day, be able to walk in a liquor store, keep the “why” in mind, and stay focused on the big picture. My nervous system is still kinda chaotic but even if it sucks…I get the satisfaction of marking off another day dry. 💪🏽 “REMEMBER YOUR WHY”

That's a great win! Well done Valerie. I used to remind myself how much it would increase my anxiety the next day and ruin my sleep. Alcohol turned me into a nervous wreck so often when I was drinking.
I am so tired of being stuck in the drinking trap.
Hello everyone. I am here because I am at my wit’s end with drinking. I got stuck in a depression->drinking-> guilt cycle and it is ruining my life. I really want to find a way to move on from this. I am very grateful for this resource.

You can do it Kate! There's plenty of good info here :-)
Anxiety was my reason for drinking and my reason for quitting.
Hey Everyone, My name is Andrew and I've been free from alcohol for over a year now. One of the major stepping stones was figuring out 'Why" I drunk so much. For me, one reason was anxiety and when I realised that alcohol greatly increased my anxiety, I knew I was chasing my tail. So, my question was, how can I feel better without it? Chris and fit recovery helped me on this journey for sure. I'm from Australia and we have a BIG drinking culture here too so it's great to be part of communities like this that understand and care. P.S I still get anxiety (part of life) but I don't want to make it worse 😆. Hope to learn from you and share where I can 😉.

@Tim Burton Hey Tim. At the moment, I'm using Farm 624 Premium Grade Fiji kava. I've also used the Happy Herbs store kava which is very good but a little expensive depending on your budget.

@Kate L Thank you Kate. If I can do it, you can too! There's a solution to every problem I believe and small steps lead to big change.
Craving vs habit
craving a drink and reaching for a drink out of habit are two separate things. If you are taking steps with nutrition, exercise and spirituality… if you feel the need to have a drink.. take a few breaths and really think if you are craving it or just reaching out of habit.. we tend to be creatures of habit..that little pause can make the difference.

I agree. Taking a pause can make us more aware of our behaviour and helps to build our sense of self control. Any progress is good progress.
