Weekends are for making art!
I started my weekend piece yesterday, and, am just finishing. Seems like the older I get, the longer it takes to fit all the pieces together, and, sometimes more than one attempt. This is an 8x8 3D mixed media assemblage on a cradled wood canvas. The woods have always been my refuge. Where I go to re-center, shut out the noise of life, and, listen to the wisdom of Mother Nature.

@Cindy Warch And I hope you don’t mind telling me where you’re from?

@Cindy Warch Maryland… that’s a beautiful state, even in challenging times…..I can imagine how art becomes a powerful outlet giving voice to what words sometimes can’t fully hold. There’s something deeply admirable about someone who leans into creativity instead of shutting down. That says a lot about your strength.…..And thank you again your kindness doesn’t go unnoticed….As for me, I’m from New York. A different pace, a different energy but just like anywhere, it has its own beauty and its own challenges…..Maybe that’s why I appreciate thoughtful conversations like this… they feel grounding….I’m glad we connected.
Unexpected difficulty ?
Since spending much more time. Infact almost all my time with art and painting. Due to the influence and encouragement of Caroline, I have come across an unexpected difficulty. That is, when do I consider a painting finished. I seem to have a habit of constantly going back to something I'm working on and changing it slightly and adding more detail. The hardest thing lately is accepting its finished, and to move on. I wondered if anyone else finds this. Anyway, these are the latest two paintings I've been working on. The ship, with the mermaids closing in, during the attack. The above water scene. If you look at the bottom left you can see a mermaid under the water from above. The second is the same mermaid below the water looking up above with the flames from the ship reflected on the top of the water. These were going to be the last of this project to visually show the historic record of the event. But not quite happy, I am now working on a final two paintings, and adding more detail. Before moving onto a new subject. These could be a while as I am presently being distracted by the winter Olympics, and my study of Cartography.

@Beate Gajda-Passig I love the way you describe that it sounds like the quiet discipline of a true artist.….Getting lost in the details just tells me how deeply you care about your work. There’s something beautiful about knowing when to step back, trust your instinct, and let the piece breathe on its own. Placing it out of reach feels almost symbolic… like giving it the dignity of being complete.….And I think you’re right when you return with fresh eyes, it’s no longer about perfection. It’s about honesty. There’s a certain grace in that process… and I imagine that same thoughtful touch shows up in more than just your art.
