New work
New 6x6 mixed media on cradled wood canvas. Have been using Derwent Inktense pencils to deepen color on my backgrounds. I have had them for years, and, essentially did not like them. Glad I kept them around now. My first show is April 4th, Saturday before Easter Sunday. I prefer to do Spring in non-conventional colors, and lesser known, deeper quotes. Love seeing everyone's work!!

Deer
This was another I finished off this morning. I was experimenting with forests and Deer. Initially I wasn't that happy with this one, but I put it aside, instead of painting over it. Made a few small touches to it this morning, and I'm now actually quite pleased with it. It has a green effect to it, denoting a forest in the distant background.

I absolutely love this, John. I picked up the forest right away. A wonderful piece. Thank you for sharing.

Six days down and 94 to go! Just having some fun on Day 6 with mixed media art journaling around a theme of the impact of simple joys on the quality of our lives. Day 6 of the 100 day Project. I love to hear the birds chipping as the sun rises, and it truly is a wild and wonderful thing.

Weekends are for making art!
I started my weekend piece yesterday, and, am just finishing. Seems like the older I get, the longer it takes to fit all the pieces together, and, sometimes more than one attempt. This is an 8x8 3D mixed media assemblage on a cradled wood canvas. The woods have always been my refuge. Where I go to re-center, shut out the noise of life, and, listen to the wisdom of Mother Nature.

@Andrew Martin I am in the United States, Maryland. A bit of a challenging place to reside at present, but, art gives voice to that, as well. And, again, thank you.

@John Fox Hello John, Thank you for the kind words. And, yes, I am working on several pieces this weekend. I have an exhibit scheduled in April so I am focused on getting some new work done. One of the new pieces will arise from the quote, "When hate is loud, love must be louder." I am doing it to honor the City of Minneapolis being nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Not really sure of a plan yet, though. I saw your comment regarding your painting. I think it is a wonderful thing when an artist leaves room for a viewer to "enter" their work. I can't wait to see it, and thank you again for your kind words.
Painting with tissue paper 🎨
This is a playful mixed media technique, it’s so simple, yet the results can look beautifully layered and complex. Instead of starting with a brush, you start with: - Coloured tissue paper - Water (or watered-down glue/medium) - A surface that’s happy to get messy! You can: - Tear or cut tissue into shapes and lay them onto your surface - Gently brush water over the tissue so the colour bleeds and stains the layer below - Peel some pieces away, leave some glued down, and keep building up soft washes, textures, and surprises What I love about tissue painting: - It removes the pressure to “draw something perfect”, you’re playing with colour, shape, and texture - The edges and overlaps create instant depth and interest - It’s brilliant for backgrounds, abstract pieces, or starting a character or scene in a very loose, playful way. Have fun 🤩 x

If it's okay, I would add that there are different types of tissue paper, and depending upon what you hope to have as a final piece, you might choose one over another. There is an art specific tissue paper that will give you all of the wonderful saturated color as it is a "bleeding" type. There are others that do not bleed, but, are "wet strength", and, hold up well for more of the layering technique.
