Good news for Dataflow Gen 2
https://blog.fabric.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/passing-parameter-values-to-refresh-a-dataflow-gen2-preview/ Leveraging query parameters while authoring Dataflows Gen2 has been possible for a long time, however, it was not possible to override the parameter values when refreshing the dataflow. The ability to pass values from a pipeline into a Dataflow parameter for refresh has been one of the top ideas in the Fabric ideas portal since Dataflow Gen2 was released.

@Will Needham , if version history is only for edits on the web, than this is not very interesting in my opinion.

Write back to Fabric Databases with brand new Power Bi native visuals

@Antony Catella, I'm not entirely sure. In some cases, Power Apps might be a better solution I think, due to the flexibility it offers, and doesn't require starting with a SQL database. However, even if it is more restrictive, the idea of having everything integrated directly within Power BI is undeniably appealing. For the complexity of those functions, I do not know what to say... Regardless, it's exciting to see the trend toward deeper Power BI integrations, it brings more flexibility and value to the tool. That said, this flexibility inevitably comes at a cost, particularly in terms of governance and security. This feature is bound to spark significant debate. It will interesting to see where this goes!
SEPTEMBER FABRIC UPDATES ANNOUNCED (FabCon2024)
So now we have confirmation of the new features that are being launched at FabCon. There are three main places to look: - The September 2024 Fabric Update Blog - Arun Ulag's summary of the announcements, which is also useful - If you like video, you can watch the Microsoft YouTube video on the updates: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWQMlt9ikE0 It will take a few hours (or days/ weeks) to digest everything that's in there, but a few that caught my eye on first look: General: - Git Integration is now GA - New Fabric Terraform provider has been released (Preview), to enable infrastructure-as-code/ automation. - Access Databricks Unity Catalog tables from Fabric (public preview) Data Warehouse - T-SQL NOTEBOOKS! This is really cool - and opens up new options for Data Analytics (who know T-SQL), I mentioned this in my latest video. - Delta column mapping in the SQL analytics endpoint (public preview) - this allows users to be a bit more liberal with column names (including spaces, if that's your jam) Data Engineering - Support for spaces in Lakehouse Delta table names - T-SQL Endpoint now working on Lakehouse with Schemas (but Lakehouse Schemas still preview: use with caution!).

Multiple apps per workspace is now possible in PBI apparently. Much more flexibility. We are expecting this for ร  long time
NEW VIDEO: How to THRIVE as a Fabric Analytics Engineer
Happy Friday everyone! I just released a new video describing my view on Analytics Engineering, the four areas that I think are most important, and how that might be different from what you learnt from the DP-600 exam. Take a look, would love to hear your thoughts: ๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿ”— https://youtu.be/of0Q8diezZQ Enjoy your weekend!

I just watched the video, and it resonated with me quite a bit. I appreciate the arguments you made about why we should adopt a broader perspective and leverage the benefits of a data platform over just Power BIโ€”such as having more robust systems, CI/CD capabilities, data validation approach, and step-by-step testing to ensure data quality. I would even add the performance aspect, the facility of debugging, and the quite easy "upgrade" from PBI to Fabric (same capacity, just couple of settings to enable from tenant settings). However, I donโ€™t fully agree that Power BI is not/should not be part of the core knowledge for an analytics engineer on Fabric. Removing Power BI from the equation essentially means eliminating the modeling aspect, which involves creating reusable analytics models. I do not think that someone without good PBI knowledge should be in charge of building gold layers. Power BI professionals usually have the best understanding of what data consumers need, what transformations need to be pushed upstream from PBI desktop. I believe the boundaries between roles are no longer as distinct. Like a relay race, the success of a Fabric implementation relies, in my view, on a strong collaboration between "Data Engineers on Fabric" and "Power BI Engineers" on the front end. Thereโ€™s a saying that "no wind is favorable if you donโ€™t know your destination." Power BI provides direction, understands business needs, it is the visible part of the iceberg. It finally distill what is essential in the data. But this is my perspective, coming essentially from a business and Power BI background.
