IF (Hommage to Ralph Towner)
Hey, I haven't posted anything for a long time. The reason: I started playing (after 50 years of always playing alone!!) with a Jazz Combo here in Barcelona (at Taller de Músics), encouraged by Coach @Marc-Andre Seguin. This wouldn't have been possible without everything I've learned here over the past two years. Thank you all so much! I will continue at the JGA, but maybe not as often. I felt like posting my modest tribute to a guitarist (jazz, fusion and many other things) whose music has accompanied me since I was 16: Ralph Towner, who just left us last week. Ralph Towner's music is a constant source of inspiration, also with his now legendary group, Oregon. I'm really sorry for this loss. The last concert he had planned in Barcelona was cancelled, but I was able to hear him a few years ago with the Italian trumpeter Paolo Fresu. Incredible! IF is a piece of his that took me a few days to start playing, and I still have a lot to practice in all its parts. But here it goes!

I think I found a transcription that would work. Let me nose around and see what I can dig up.

I fairly certain I purchased the music at some point but can't really put my finger on it. I do recall it being in drop D tuning. Very nice Kevin. I tried tackling this several months ago and set it aside. Love the tune, the arrangement and your approach. I take your point about getting to where you can play without the sheet music. Only then can you begin to really internalize the song and make it yours. I can't spiral for Kyle, but I suspect he was hearing the fingernail action you mention. No way can it be SGPS. Again, very nice. 😎

You have a good sense for the rhythm Richard. As Rick notes, I think you cut a few bars short to get ahead of the fingering for the next chord. That will come with time as you become more comfortable with the shapes. Keep it up!😎

D Natural Blues (part A&B)
Almost gave up on this one - it’s really beyond my limited abilities but kept after it for nearly 3 months. This was definitely the toughest tune that I’ve ever attempted- and it finally came together. There are so many jumping octaves and awkward chord crabs in this little 12 bar blues! Happy to share now and to play a new guitar - a true jazz box - with a simple single humbucker and one tone knob. I absolutely love this instrument! Appreciate any feedback.
