🇭🇰 Side Quest: Speaking Cantonese in New York City
As a personal Language Learning Challenge, I want to see what can be done in terms of speaking Cantonese (Gwang Dung Waa) in New York City over the course of a few days. If anyone knows any Cantonese, please feel free to give me tips. I'll share videos in this post of any Real Life interactions I'm able to have, good, bad, ugly, or beautiful.

I wanted to say "hello" in Chinese. It was mandarin, though, but what I learned is the words individually are pronounced slightly different than the phrase as a greeting.

As English speakers, we are so fortunate, because so many languages were absorbed (some would say stolen) to create what we speak today. Even having verbs at the end of a sentence is not as foreign to us as it would seem. Like what I inadvertently did in my previous sentence.

More English speakers should learn a second language. We have a head start that many don't take advantage of.

To take the tennis analogy further: 3 is an overhand serve 2 is an underhand serve 1 is the return "2" is a serve that is a little easier for a beginner to return but it also has a role for anyone of any skill level of getting the game started. In the same way, a "2" in a discussion has more material in it for the person returning to work with.

"Entiendo más de lo que hablo". While this may be true at any level, let's work on that.
