It's a beautiful book celebrating America 250, with hand-drawn ink and watercolor illustrations, for those who don't know it.
Just a little encouragement for everyone today.
Things have been busy on my end with book events, meeting new families, and working on several behind-the-scenes projects that I hope to share with you all in the future. Sometimes it can feel like progress is slow when so much of the work happens where no one else can see it. But I’ve been reminded that God is in every step of the journey. He sees the preparation, the long days, the unanswered questions, and the small victories. Not every seed produces fruit overnight, but that doesn’t mean God isn’t working. If you’re in a season of building, waiting, learning, or simply trying to take the next step, keep going. Stay faithful with what is in front of you today. Trust that God is guiding the process, even when you cannot see the full picture yet. Keep planting. Keep serving. Keep trusting. ‘Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.’ — Proverbs 3:5-6

Thank you. I've been feeling quite hassled lately with my America 250 book launch, and this is a potent reminder that I'm not the one in control. I'm glad I'm not because that would be even more exhausting.
Has anyone here built their own website from scratch?
If so, what platform or tools did you use, and would you recommend them? I'm currently building my own website and trying to decide the best approach. I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have built a website themselves rather than hiring a developer. What worked well for you, what didn't, and if you were starting again today, what would you do differently? I'd love to learn from your experiences. Thanks in advance!

I am building on Shopify right now, and it's fantastic! You will never struggle with code glitches or website outages on Shopify. It runs like a silent but powerful engine. The one downside to a Shopify site is that it's less customizable than Word Press. I had a "vintage seed catalog" looking site on Word Press until December 2025, when it crashed permanently. I've been able to create some of that look with a particular Shopify template. Because Shopify has strong global settings, you'll never have to spend hours styling the landing page for each product. The interface is almost addictive for the customer, it's so beautiful and functional. Plus, I'm paying less for Shopify than I did for the layers of infrastructure on my old website: Bluehost, Divi, and WooCommerce.
I need to get organized!
Anyone else with your brain overflowing with ideas and things to do? Not sure if I should create the website, make lead magnets, finish my second book.. or make Content for social media ahhhhh! Who else feels like they have too many tabs open.. lol

I just make a to-do list and use bubbled numbers. Higher priorities get higher numbers. I also have a "primary goal" each month.
For those who really hate making coloring pages...
I am a detail-oriented, perfectionist person, and the extreme simplicity of the coloring page drives me nuts... Also, I work by hand, so I cannot save black and white renditions of my drawings easily. The thought of spending 2-3 hours a week making coloring pages with a dip pen and card stock was terribly daunting. My graphic designer is using Photoshop AI to render my original watercolors into coloring pages. It takes her 10 minutes to convert each one and the resulting images are beautiful. I think children will love them! That leaves me to design a few fun activities on my own, which I may have her convert to make them easier to read. She charges me $30 per hour and I think it will be entirely worth it for the number of hours saved and the number of hits to my website. I thought I would pass this on for the similarly-minded. Cheers!

@Harleigh Manske I don't normally love the use of AI, but it seems acceptable to alter a piece of artwork that has already been created.
