Write Your 5 Money & Investing Guardrails (Template Inside)
If your money + investing decisions always feel heavy, it’s usually a guardrail problem, not a strategy problem. Guardrails = pre‑decisions. ‘I’ve already decided what I will and won’t do with: - Cash - Debt - Deals - My time’ Here’s a simple template to write your 5 guardrails today. Copy/paste and fill in: 1️⃣ Cash Floor‘I keep at least $____ or ____ months of expenses in cash before I buy anything new.’ 2️⃣ Debt Line‘I do / do not use [which types?] debt for investing. My hard “no” is: ____________.’ 3️⃣ Capacity Check‘I will only start a new project/deal if the next ___ days at work/home are at or below a ___/10 stress level.’ 4️⃣ Deal Filter‘My deals need to be in [markets], [asset types/price range], and must have plan A and plan B. If I can’t clearly state both, I don’t do it.’ 5️⃣ Money Rhythm‘I have a ___‑minute money reset every [day/time] each week. I don’t skip it because I’m “busy.”’ You don’t have to get these perfect. You just need a first draft you can actually follow. 👉 If you’re willing, comment with ONE guardrail you’re adopting (or want to adopt). I’ll read through and, where it helps, give feedback or a tweak.

What’s your ONE red metric this week?
If you’ve started sketching out your Investor Scoreboard (or even just thought through the metrics), you probably noticed something: They’re not all equal. One of them is clearly the troublemaker. Quick recap of the 5: 1️⃣ Cash Runway – months you can operate if no new money comes in 2️⃣ Timeline Variance – days/weeks behind on rehab/turn/lease‑up 3️⃣ Occupancy Status – # occupied / pre‑leased / vacant 4️⃣ Open Issue Age – age of the oldest unresolved issue 5️⃣ Decision Queue – # of decisions you’re actively avoiding And the colors: - 🟢 Green – healthy, hold - 🟡 Yellow – keep an eye on it - 🔴 Red – fix this week Today’s question: 👉 What’s your ONE red metric right now? Comment with: - The metric number (1–5), and - One sentence on what makes it red Examples: “1 – Cash runway is under 1 month because we’ve had two big repairs and no refill plan yet.”“4 – I’ve had a maintenance issue sitting open for 3+ weeks and keep avoiding it.” I’ll read through and reply with how I’d think about attacking some of these over the next 7 days, so you’re not just looking at a red box… you have a starting move.

If you don’t know, write “I don’t know” – that’s data too. Step 4 – Color‑code each one: - 🟢 Green: - 🟡 Yellow: - 🔴 Red: Step 5 – Pick ONE red. That’s your focus for this week. Not all 5. Just the one red. 👉 If you’re willing, comment below with: - Which metric is red for you (1–5) - One sentence about why I’ll reply to a few with how I’d think about attacking it this week.

Poll: Are You in a BUY, HOLD, or PAUSE Season?
Quick pulse check for everyone: When you look at your life + money + energy right now, which season are you actually in? BUY - You have a cash buffer - Job/income are stable - You can take on more without things breaking HOLD - You like your current portfolio - You’re cleaning up debt / tightening systems - You want to optimize what you have before adding more PAUSE - You’re stretched thin (work, family, stress) - Your numbers are fuzzy - Taking on a new project/tenant would probably wreck your bandwidth 👉 Comment below with one word: BUY, HOLD, or PAUSE…and add 1–2 sentences on WHY. I’ll read through and, where it’s helpful, reply with a nudge or a question to help you clarify your next 90 days.

@Bryan Y Bryan — this is a clean Hold. Notice what you just did: you named a position with reasoning, not with apology. That's the move. The phrase that landed for me: "smaller issues I could have taken care of by being diligent." That's the difference between Hold-as-strategy and Hold-as-procrastination. Hold-as-strategy means you're actively working on what you have — stabilizing, tightening, learning the operation. Hold-as-procrastination means you're stalling on what you have AND not pursuing what's next. You're in the first one. Keep going.
