A little down time
Back from a quick trip to British Columbia to visit my parents and now out to bear camp again I found myself with some down time tonight after all the chores were done. I brought my Kwyk Styk with me to get some reps in and make some adjustments on braceheight, remove the old string silencers and add some moveable nock points. I’m shooting from a seated position out to 17yds. The max distance the baits are set from the blinds at the bait sites. Shooting Beman centershot 400 spine arrows. Full length with 200 gr points. Arrows are flying very well. I’ll likely add some beaver fur silencers to the string. Very happy with this bow so far. Thinking it maybe the hunting companion this fall or if I’m lucky to get out for the spring bear hunt I’ll be ready.

Fly Fishing & Traditional Bowhunting
Do you fly fish? Have you ever thought about it trying out traditional archery or learning to hunt with a recurve or longbow? The two share similar process and qualities. Beyond fly fishing, old school heritage skill sets matter, and they all connect you to the same path that bow hunting does with a recurve or longbow bladesmithing, bush crafting -woodworking and many other skills relate to this as well. Throw a comment below if you have other processes and skills that relate back to traditional archery we’d love to hear about them!

I love fly fishing. As much as traditional archery. I just last year got back at it after 30 plus years. I was invited on a trip to a private fishing club where they only use fly fishing gear. It was an amazing weekend. It was so much fun they invited me back near the end of August 2025. Going to try tying my own flies. I just picked up a beginners book while in British Columbia on a quick trip to see my parents. Here is one of my Brook trout from the August trip.

@Michael Brasher both were. Takes about four hours to get into the lake. Hiking and portaging four small lakes along the way.
Euro mount of my first buck.
Finally got my first trad buck skull cleaned up by a local guy. He did a great job and I'm happy to have this to hang up on the wall.

New bow and tuned arrows.
I got a new bow and got my arrows for it tuned this weekend. 60" Traditional Only Oberon. Stock photo since I haven't gotten a good picture of it yet. I'm good out to 15 yards. Lol
