Release work
Spent some time just working on my release this evening with my new Striker Long bow.

Nice bow. I have a super kodiak as well. It shoots well and packs a punch.
Anchor point
I changed my anchor point to try to get more consistent. It seems to be working much better although I only modified it slightly. The change has really helped. It’s not ingrained so if I’m not concentrating on my shot, I fall back to my original anchor. I know that’s not supposed to happen but I shoot as a stress relief every now and then. I just let’em fly. Lol This is only 12 yards.

@Grant Richardson what do you mean anchoring with your elbow?

@Grant Richardson I've been working on pressing my scapula together and driving my elbow back using my back muscles to draw. That's helped tremendously. It hits a stopping point and my anchor is naturally there. There's so many components to a draw cycle and one little change can throw off the shot. I reckon that's what makes it so challenging yet so addictive. Thanks for that explanation. I think I'm on the right path and hope to improve as a I go.
👋 Hey Guys!...Let's Take The Time To Introduce Ourselves...
My name is Jenn Richardson, my husband, Grant Richardson and I created this group, TradBowhunter - Ethical Predator. We are from Ontario, Canada, I have had a love for the outdoors since I was little. My grandfather being a conservation officer in the United States and my other grandfather a trapper here in Ontario. I have been in Law Enforcement for over 26yrs, love the outdoors, marketing and business so decided to put all three together! This is a passion piece for Grant and I...My hubby being the subject matter expert with Traditional Bowhunting as well as an author, podcast host and 3rd generation traditional bowhunter. We wanted to bring like minded people together and create a place to share their experiences with traditional bowhunting. ----------------- Hey folks! Grant Richardson here - about myself... I was raised in a hunting family. I have Bowhunted with traditional gear all my life and started shooting bows when I was 3. I've been able to hunt all over North America and along the way this past 40 plus years hunting with trad gear I have learned that success is born not from tech or the latest camo but from long cold days in the woods and often- failure. Bows and arrows were always a part of my life and I was lucky to have an upbringing that emphasized time in the woods. I was able to see both the rise of Bowhunting in Ontario and the laws and regulations based on ethics & conservation formed- But - also to see them fall apart to an Industry that focused on the latest and newest tech or gadgets to bring wild game home and not the skillsets I was raised to respect and follow. The very fabric of those primitive weapon/Bowhunting seasons was based on the fact that it was harder to take game with a bow and arrow- simply that it was difficult- but there is the truth that many forgot or perhaps never learned. The Ethical Predator was created from those lessons learned all my life. I helped create this community seeing a need to bring folks from all over the world into a community that supported the old ways, from scouting, tracking & the heritage of Bowhunting I grew up with.

Hello. Bruce Thornton. Born and raised in The Sportsman's Paradise in northeast Louisiana. Hunted and fished since I was old enough to hold a fishing pole. Got into traditional archery in 2023 and haven't looked back. I LOVE it. It's my 2nd favorite pastime after spending time with my grand daughter. (She's not quite old enough to shoot yet. Ha) I shoot a Bear Super Kodiak 64", 50# @ 28'. I haven't shot any expensive or custom bows to make a fair comparison but the SK shoots well and I've had no issues with it thus far. My biggest challenge is consistency. I'll shoot lights out one day and the next I do good to keep the arrows in the target. I mainly hunt from the ground with natural cover and it's a challenge. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of the community.
Shooting in my new bow
Used my Christmas bonus to buy a bear montana flame this year. Havent had time to do much with it, since im so invested in the spring bear season right now. Sadie-May and I took it out yesterday and put a couple hours on it, its very smooth I really like it. Will chronograph it soon.

I’ve been thinking about getting a Montana. I have a Bear Super Kodiak 64” now and really like the way it shoots. But, I have never shot a custom bow so I really don’t have anything to compare it to other than my Samick Sage.
Daily grind
Been working on my shot process in the off season working on consistency. I made a slight modification to my anchor point and something clicked. Now I just need to get used to it and I think I’ll be more consistent. This is at 15 yards which is the maximum shot distance for me in a hunting situation.
