Quick update after our second league match of the season with my son. Coming into this game, we were a bit on edge because the opposition had smashed their opening fixture 8-0. You always expect a tough shift when you see numbers like that on paper, but the boys came out flying and took a quick 0-4 lead. Of course, they weren't going to just sit back and take it. They pulled two back quickly on plays where Lizer didn't really have a chance, and from that point on, the game turned into a proper, tight battle. Lizer didn't have a relentless barrage of shots, but he handled what came his way really cleanly—commanding his box well on corners and holding onto long-range strikes with absolute security and no second-chance rebounds. There was one gk-moment in particular that made all the parents and spectators gasp. They got a dangerous free-kick just outside the box, and the lad struck it well. Lizer flew across the goal line to make a world-class fingertips save right at the base of the post. Absolute full-extension stuff! Unluckily for him, our defenders were watching the show instead of reacting to the rebound, and an attacker followed it up to smash it home. It’s a shame it ended in a goal because that save deserved a highlight itself! All in all, a really impressive display and a solid victory. My main tactical homework with him now is encouraging him to stay loud, organize the backline, and keep directing traffic from the back so he stays 100% engaged mentally even when the ball is upfield. But overall, extremely proud of how composed he looked between the sticks!
