$500 Test or Phases Campaigns
Yesterday was an interesting day: @Matt Radkiewicz and @Barry Georgiou published videos on how to structure Amazon Ads campaigns. Matt and Barry are accomplished publishers, and clearly, we can extract a lot of value from both videos. But on the surface, they seem to contradict each other in some areas. For example, using an auto campaign at the start. I would like to give my perspective on the topic, and we could continue in the comments. Barry provided a clear, simple structure: Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3, with exact goals for each phase. And it's great if we assume the promoted book is great, the niche has potential, and the promotion timeline is infinite. Matt, on the other hand, provided the structure for a publisher that cannot make a long-term commitment to the book yet due to insufficient data. His $500 campaign provides a framework for gathering initial data to determine whether the promotion should continue. As for me, Matt and Barry described frameworks for completely different scenarios, and we should not compare them; rather, we should consider them for different use cases. What is your opinion on the topic? @Robert Enochs does it make sense for you?

This is a brilliant video, in my opinion. And he’s adding tons of value for free. I am intuitively dragged to Barry’s system more than to automatic campaigns. However, it’s true: you have to be willing to put the time in all the other elements. It’s like a puzzle. For instance, good kwd research is vital, and even wonder if some very broad books (or fiction books) will find applying this approach more difficult. Maybe it’s not meant for those type of books. Of course, this is very personal. I’d like to believe my intuition for this is good- I used to run Google ads - another beast, but some huge similarities here. I’d like to believe that helps separate the wheat from the chaff. It’s been a while since I’ve run Google ads, but the core principles for successful campaigns are pretty similar: Extra targeted keywords (tick for Barry’s approach) Extra targeted ads (we can’t optimize this, or run a/b tests, but his obsession with covers I think would be the equivalent to having good ads, and of course, also a great title that instantly tells the person - this is what you were looking for! So, another tick here) Extra targeted landing pages (that’s why you need a good listing and good A+) The difference is that Google did not know (and didn’t care) about conversion rates. Also Amazon shares less information about ad position (important to know your ad position but we only have approximations with top of search reach - a shame!) Another core principle, of course: Accumulate data! So, I do have a preference for control. Im biased in that way. I’m not the biggest fan of the algorithm spending my budget on super broad kwds, or “somewhat related.”Why? Well, I know already they won’t convert too well, and I want to treat Amazon for what it primarily is: a search engine for products based on kwds people search for. It’s not inspirational social media. And, of course, I want to preserve my budget. In the end, the Pareto rule I think also applies here: 20% bring the 80% of results. So I prefer to laser focus on that 20% right from the start.

@Matt Radkiewicz I haven’t had time to really dig deep into your approach, so I can’t have an informed opinion. I’m sticking to Barry’s methodology because if you constantly switch you definitely can’t see results. So I’m trying to stay consistent. As explained on a later answer, I do have a preference for the manual approach, because it makes a lot of sense to me, and aligns with previous success experiences I’ve had (not so much on Amazon, I must admit , but with Google ads). However, starting with automatic campaigns to help you uncover the gold, I’m sure can make a lot of sense for certain kind of books, when you are not sure about your kwds… or maybe it’s just a superior approach altogether, who knows!

I had never heard of this one. Thanks, I will look into it. Even though, I am not really looking for infographics...

As you probably know, I published the book I have been working on for the last few months this week. For me, primarily, it is not a book for earning royalties, but a guide to a part of the new economy emerging right before our eyes. In some way, it's a trial balloon to test whether there is a space for such a type of book on the market. As you can imagine, I would be happy to get feedback from the target audience, and luckily enough, the target audience is you. If you want to give your input and you have Amazon Prime for free delivery, I would be more than happy to cover the cost of the book via PayPal. Shoot me a message if you're down to it. Why don't I just publish the link? It's for the next few weeks. Today, I want to get private feedback to understand whether it was worth it.

Any good resource for video ads?
Just wondering if someone had some good information on this... I would like to experiment adding video ads, but what do you think is a good way to go about it? Just a flip-through the book, or showing the book being used in action? This is for a children's book, by the way

@Thomas Juuls I have created something similar and I will be running it as soon as I get it approved by Amazon. Only in one campaign, as a test to start with. The only thing is that they asked me to upload another one (min of 2 apparently) so I had to rush to create another one. For that one I used Amazon create studio. It looks more like an ad. Not sure if Amazon will do an A/B test between the two or display both in a spot for video ads… let’s see.

@Thomas Juuls it asked me to add at least 2 videos… 🤷🏻‍♀️
😂 Reviews. If we collect and publish it, it would easily be a bestseller.
"Great book. Easily 50 stars, but... I will leave three." 😂 What are the favorite reviews you got for your books?

hahaha - people are funny. If you are left-handed and are looking for something so specific, did you not check before buying? But the final 50 stars comment is hilarious!
