Greetings Operators. Chris Callaway here, coming at you from from nowhere Oklahoma. Though originally from Texas. Unfortunately, I'm unable to explain my business as it currently does not exist, but I can say what's coming. I thought I was fired up the last time I did operate, but then I found @Austin Gray . Oddly enough, I'm off researching operators on YouTube searching for perspective on what I would come know as my ideal client, niche, and unique value proposition. Go figure. So that's what's coming. I'm well into market analysis, the demand is evident. The niche, also evident, basically a giant void that contractors drive across headed for the large developments in and around the closest township. I am now laying the foundation to support a reasonable online / social media presence, don't even have a name yet. But so far this niche seems vast and promising. It consist primarily of 5 to 20 acre homesteads, small farms, and residential properties. I suspect a 30 mile service radius for more complex/ larger jobs and scale down to 50 miles max range. This will be my initial target area, I'll adjust as needed. I will market with a personal touch at first, meet some folks, as I have only met 3 other humans since arriving 3 years ago, the keep working the online effort. I anticipate equipment funding to occur by April, at which point I will purchase a 7x16/14k dump trailer and my weapon of choice...a 3.5 to 4 ton excavator. Likely a Kubota U35-4 as the dealership is not far, but, the E35 Bcat sure is a looker. The vator will serve a duel purpose, off property revenue and on property savings as I am developing 20 raw acres into an off-grid homestead and eventually a small production farm. Lot's of infrastructure to build and the vator will be essential to that success. Until then, I've got the truck and trailer, preparing for the here and there jobs, renting machines as needed, running rock and sand when called. Still not a contractor for miles.

@Mario Visin Welcome Mario! Right you are god sir, tons of cheddar across many programs. Not entirely sure I'll ever go full metal farmer, at least not to USDA program standards. I am good producing enough for necessity, community, and saving some for later. But I will say while Oklahoma lacks much to be desired... they do maintain a healthy position supporting conservation & preservation programs for Ag, Wildlife, and natural resources. Greenhouses, gardening, renewable energy, and even rain harvesting programs can render tremendous support, having profound influence on many projects, people, and walks of life. Amazing really. Even so, I'd rather focus on building this excavation empire first, then maybe farming. It seems you are a few steps ahead on the start up. How is the Handyman biz coming along? I might be hitting you up on A few #6 topics, as I will soon be validating my market interpretation skills...or lack thereof. Cheers. and again, welcome
Market Research
Hey all, I'm needing some guidance on how to do "Market Research" for a service. I have a personal skid loader for projects around my place. I am wanting to start doing some side work but I'm not sure where the need is at? We have several excavation and smaller owner/ ops in the area. I live in a rural/ ag led area where everyone has a tractor and bucket. I'm wanting to get specific. Nearest rental is over 30 minutes away one way so I'd like to invest in the attachments as needed so I can start promoting the service. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Additionally, leverage ChatGPT or one of the others. Prompt for desired search perimeters, tell him to search deep dive and find answers to your questions. You may get some hits, maybe not. I have found ChatGPT quite capable of pulling contractors in the target area, pulls price sheets, finds fleet sizes and machine types, public schedules, website info and client reviews, and even browses local FB groups for key word searches and timeframes. This for me was instrumental in first identifying demand and then defining demand, from there a trend developed to show a true niche.. Adjust to offer the right solution and you may not have much competition to measure. Let me know how it goes. Good Luck.
