Name change
I've changed the community name to coachingjumpstart https://www.skool.com/coachingjumpstart This name is easier to say when people ask, instead of saying "Jumpstart dash your dash income" which I've had to say 3 times this week already. The word Coach is in the title, better SEO or Discovery keyword. I am focused on coaches. When I launched, I was sure I'd be more of a financial advisor and business coach combined. After meeting with so many people 1:1 I can see it would be too much. I'll save the additional income strategies for the top level clients. Jumpstart will always be around me, if you know my story, you know why. I appreciate your feedback. Don't be too confused when the title of the group changes. Look for my ugly mug in the icon, you'll know it's still this group.

Love the name change and I think it suits well!
Tiers or Tears: How to Lose Members
Skool just dropped a bombshell: Membership Tiers are officially live! If you're building an online community, this could be a game-changer—offering free access, Tier 1 (monthly or annual), and Tier 2 (monthly or yearly) all under one roof. No more juggling multiple groups or workarounds. Creators are buzzing on X, with posts like "This is a game-changer" and plans to roll it out ASAP. @TheWillCarter Sounds like a win, right? More revenue streams, segmented value, and happier members who pay for what they actually need. But hold up—excitement aside, I've got a gut feeling this shiny new feature could backfire spectacularly if mishandled. Tiers aren't just a pricing tweak; they're a psychological minefield. Done wrong, they could drive members away from your group rather than deeper into it. People might quit existing communities out of FOMO or frustration, or ghost the ones they're eyeing altogether. (I am already thinking of exiting a few.) Let's break down the three biggest traps: 1. Misuse 2. Marketing Mayhem 3. Decision paralysis. I'll back it with some cold, hard stats to show why "more choices" doesn't always equal "more members. "Trap #1: Using Tiers Wrong – When 'More Options' Means Zero Differentiation. The allure of tiers is obvious: Cater to everyone from freebie seekers to high-rollers. But here's the rub: Skool caps you at two paid tiers (plus a free one), which is smart on paper. Yet, I've already seen creators plotting "hacks" to squeeze in extras via course unlocks or event access. @skoolinsiders The problem? If your tiers look like identical twins with a $10 price tag difference, members will smell the scam. I could point out a few people who are rushing in and not thinking this through already. Think about it: Tier 1 gets "basic chats and resources," Tier 2 adds "exclusive AMAs." That's not value—it's a nickel-and-dime upsell. Members who joined for the community vibe will feel nickel-and-dimed, leading to churn. (Again, I'm likely leaving a couple because of this, and I've already been asked to bring "big value" to these groups, but I'm locked out of the next tier without paying?!?!)

I really like how you broke this down. It feels like a lot of people are so eager to use the new feature that they’ll jump straight in without thinking through how it impacts the community experience. My worry is that we’ll start seeing more free groups where everything inside is locked behind paywalls, and that could shift the whole culture of Skool. The best communities right now feel open, helpful, and genuine, not gated at every turn. I think tiers can be amazing if they’re used intentionally, but if creators rush in just to monetise, it could make new members less trusting and slow community growth overall. Sometimes, it’s better to build value and connection first, then add structure later.

We totally could haha @Jim Chianese I love how we have a similar mindset about these things, provide the value, don’t forget about your free members, your core members and then if they see you’re an expert and authority in your field, then they will want to get more value and therefore pay to gain access to it.
Now’s the time for our communities to shine 🌟 (With or Without Tiers)
Skool’s new tiers feature has opened up a whole new chapter for how we all run our spaces. While many will rush to lock things behind paywalls and turn free value into premium access, I think this is actually our moment to shine. Because while others might charge crazy amounts for what used to be free… we can take the opposite approach. We can double down on value, keep our free spaces genuinely helpful, and only charge when something truly deserves it. This isn’t about racing to monetise. It’s about building trust, community, and consistency, the kind of connection that keeps people coming back long after the “new feature” excitement fades. Retention matters more than ever. It’s always easier to keep someone engaged than to win them back later. If we create spaces people want to stay in, not just pay to access, we’ll win long-term. Personally, I think tiers can be a great thing if used properly. They can reward loyal members, add structure for deeper learning and give communities room to grow sustainably. But only if they’re used for the right reasons. So, I’d love to know: 👉 Are you using or planning to use tiers in your community? 👉 How are you approaching them? 👉 Have you seen other groups start charging for things that were once free and how does that make you feel as a user? Let’s talk about it- because how we use this feature could define the next wave of Skool communities.

@Andy White this exactly what I mean, it’s a shame but we can use that experience to our advantage and make sure we still give the free tiers our all 😃
He made the decision, now lets make him feel welcomed...
@Michael Drayton and I bumped into each other on a call in another group. We messed with the owner's head a little by saying hi to each other like we've known each other for years. It was the first time we met. Was that @Eliot Payne's group? Anyway, he's a pretty darn cool guy. Let's give some virtual high fives and make some noise for Mr. Drayton!
