How to Focus (for Skool Owners)
As per the request of , here's how to get more done as a Skool owner!
So let's get started!
Focus is like an arrow. It's got 3 parts:
  1. The arrowhead
  2. The shaft
  3. The trajectory
And each of these 3 parts work together to help you get more work done in LESS time (aka. productivity).
πŸ“Œ (1) Arrowhead
The tip of the arrow is what pierces the target. That means, this is the part of focus in which you START to do the work.
Having a faulty arrowhead means you struggle to even get started on your work... in other words, procrastination.
Now why's that? Well, it's simple.
Motivation... or dopamine.
When you've got less motivation to do the work, you often don't start.
And that's where you run into this situation where you want to make progress toward your goals... but you don't.
So the simple solution. Increase your motivation to work through something that I call DESTIMULATION.
Destimulation is where you get rid of EVERYTHING that causes you instant gratification (with the exceptions of only 1-2 things).
That means: no phone, no games, no scrolling, no YouTube, no lyrical music, no drugs, no alcohol, etc.
This RAISES your dopamine baseline (raises standard dopamine levels), making you more motivated to work.
πŸ“Œ (2) Shaft
The shaft of the arrow is what allows you to sustain the focus.
If you run into issues where you get distracted during your work, this is where you struggle. Most often, there's 2 kinds of distractions:
  1. External distractions
  2. Internal distractions
External distractions include:
  • your phone
  • a million tabs open on your Mac (you know who you are πŸ‘€)
  • random papers
  • notifications
  • emails
  • etc.
It's a bunch of junk that just won't let you focus when you wanna focus.
And sometimes, these are actually important... but just not important IN THE MOMENT.
For example, I could be working on scripting videos for my YouTube channel, but I'd reply to a Skool comment.
Now that's not unproductive, but it IS distracting... because now I'm multi-tasking (and thus, losing up to 40% of my focus).
So solution here: make it a ritual to clear your workspace of distractions every time before you sit down.
And yes, that means close the million other tabs you've got open.
Now that's external distractions. But internal distractions are a bit different.
I used to struggle with something called maladaptive daydreaming. It's as simple as it sounds.
In the middle of the work session, I'd start daydreaming, trying to work, but getting lost in thoughts and dreams about me being successful.
Now sure, you could call those visualizations... but the problem is I was doing them DURING my work sessions. So naturally, I didn't get much done.
But the solution to this... is actually very simple.
Urgency.
If you start daydreaming, it's because your brain thinks you've got enough time, so it'll take as much time as it wants to finish the task.
You know that feeling when you're just an hour before some deadline, but you haven't even started on the work.
You won't be able to even THINK about thinking during then. Your focus will just be 100% locked in on that task.
That's what urgency does. It activates the sympathetic nervous system (fight-or-flight), giving you a healthy boost in adrenaline, allowing you to get the work done.
And that's how I stopped getting distracted while I worked.
πŸ“Œ (3) Trajectory
This one is simple: direction. Where do you plan to direct this focus toward?
A lot of us spend time spinning in circles... jumping ship from one Skool strategy to the next.
The solution is simple, but uncomfortable: pick and stick.
Choose your strategy and follow it religiously. Don't diverge. Don't get that shiny object syndrome.
Choose your path... and choose your goals... and just follow it.
Productivity has 2 parts:
  1. Efficiency
  2. Efficacy
Efficiency is what we covered in the first 2 parts: the arrowhead & shaft.
It's how fast your able to work.
While efficacy is what the trajectory is.
It's how EFFECTIVE the work is in achieving your goals.
Are you doing the highest leverage tasks?
Are you spending your time on what matters?
Are you staying centered on ONE path?
That's what efficacy is. So "pick and stick."
And that's how to lock in as a Skool owner. Getting stuff done is hard.
But hopefully this just made it 10x easier!
