3 DM tactics that just work...
I'm not a big 'tactics' guy, as I think the tactic is just the delivery mechanism, the real secret is the overall strategy... the deeper stuff like messaging, positioning, offer etc.
But having different tactics up your sleeve will help you get that little extra boost in conversions.
So here are 3 that we use ALL THE TIME... to get more responses, more engagement in conversations and ultimately more booked calls.
Tactic 1: Boil the Frog
You put a frog in cold water, then boil it, the frog stays in and meets it's end (brutal).
Throw a frog in hot water it instantly jumps out.
A lot of people throw the frog in the hot water, by asking for to much up front commitment in DMs.
Our first few messages usually only require our prospect to respond with one word. Sometimes not even a word, just liking our message or throwing an emoji our way.
We cover this in the Openers Section of The Bulletproof DM System: https://go.adtaria.com/bulletproof-dms-system
Here's an example we just used for our LinkedIn Playbook Training:
"LinkedIn Playbook… Got your comment on our post about it, cool if I send the link here? Give this messages a thumbs up or reply and I’ll shoot it over 🙌"
Tactic 2: This or That
The second tactic here follows along with the boiling the frog idea.
Our second question in a typical DM flow is a "this or that" question that is designed to lead us to where we want the conversation to go.
It also softens any hard questions because you're giving the prospect options.
If you frame the question right the prospect will give you more information then they even realize, which can frame your whole conversation.
Here's our follow up question after we send a training:
"BTW, are you using LinkedIn for lead gen right now, or more just giving the platform a try? As I know it can be an odd place haha."
Very casual and very easy to answer, a variation of this is:
"BTW, are you working as an online consultant or more of an agency right now?"
Our goal with both is to start collecting info and navigate the convo.
Tactic 3: Curiosity Killed the Cat
I'm sure PETA won't be happy with the amount of animal abuse in this, but hey the analogies work.
This one is an all timer, something we've done for years now.
We used to get a lot of people Ghosting us... hell we still do, but this always helps.
We dive into why people ghost in the Bulletproof DM System: https://go.adtaria.com/bulletproof-dms-system
But the quick version is usually out of fear/doubt.
They either fear that they will continue the convo and be sold, or doubt that they can get results, or even that you can.
But curiosity kills the scaredy cat
To re-engage a convo, we leave a cryptic message. That also follows our "permissions principles" which we lay out in the bulletproof DM system.
We have done a few things which aren't exactly unethical, but just a little dumb, and can rub people the wrong way.
Quick Side-bar Black Hat techniques:
  1. Spell their name wrong on purpose, then apologies about it 5 minutes later with a joke. So silly but gets a 90% response rate.
  2. Drop an audio message with no text and cut off half way through, again stupid but it works
  3. Send a message with just their name, nothing else, feels like an emergency, some people get offended by it.
Now back to the real message we send...
The message is simple and works so well, but needs a great follow up line of questioning or a great offer presented.
Here it is:
"Hey NAME, let me know when you're online I have a quick Q"
It's funny some people will ghost for months, after every attempt to reach them we throw this out there, and sometimes get a response within seconds...
Curiosity wins. BUT you have to be prepared to send a great next message to re-engage the conversation or present an offer.

Any way, enough tactics for me today, back to more advanced stuff tomorrow, like how I generated $100k from LinkedIn in my first 90 days on the platform.
