Who REALLY needs your book?
The one question that stops most business books before they start isn't "what should I write about" or "how do I find the time." It's "who actually needs to hear this?" Most of us start writing for everyone. Every client, every problem we've ever solved, every lesson we've learned. And that's exactly why the book stalls. You can't write a clear book for an unclear reader, and you definitely can't plan a timeline for a book you haven't pinned down yet. So here's a question to sit with today, before you write a single word: If only one person read your book and it changed how they run their business or live their life, who would you want that person to be? Not "coaches" or "consultants." An actual person. What are they frustrated by right now? What have they tried that hasn't worked? What would make them stop scrolling and think "finally, someone gets it"? Get specific here and everything else gets easier to write. And once you're clear on your reader, mapping out the framework stops being guesswork. Who is YOUR ideal reader?

WELCOME - START HERE
Welcome to the Write Your Business Book community. This space is designed for busy experts, consultants, coaches and business owners who want to finally begin their business book and turn their expertise into a published reality. I'm Rachel J Harmsworth, published author of both fiction and non-fiction books. I've been a writing coach for over 15 years. For the past 6 yesrs, I've specialised in business book coaching. I also coach fiction writers (in my separate Writing for Children community). Fun fact - if you write for around an hour a day, 5 days a week, you can write a 30,000 word business book in just 8 weeks. What next? 1. Introduce yourself. Start a new post and tell us about you and your business, and where you are in your writing journey so far. 2. Browse other people's posts, like and comment (you're more likely to get likes and comments back and level up in the community this way). 3. Check the Classroom tab and the Calendar tab to see any courses or calls coming up. I run onboarding calls for new members every other week as well as fortnightly Q&A calls and Saturday co-writing sessions for Premium Members. Here's the link to the START HERE course in the classroom. I look forward to getting to know you and your book! Rachel

Well, this made my morning.
My brilliant business friend Michelle Thomas featured me in her Front Row Pass email today, and I'm buzzing about it! Michelle wrote her book, Radical Happiness for High Vibe Humans, with me a while back, and this is what she had to say: "Rachel turned twenty years of chaos in my head into an actual book. She gave me structure, momentum and belief when I wanted to quit. Six weeks later Radical Happiness existed. If your book lives in your head, she gets it out." Michelle, thank you. Truly. And now, because she's put such a lovely spotlight on it, I want to tell you about what she was talking about. Your Business Book: Planned Together is my four week programme for business owners who've got a book bouncing around their head and no idea how to get it out. Live coaching, a brand new workbook, WhatsApp support, and a chapter by chapter roadmap you'll actually want to follow. There are 12 founder spaces open right now. Actually 10, because the first 2 people hopped straight in. We'll be doing some free pre-work together next week. Doors close midnight, Friday 31st July. We start Monday 3rd August. If your book has been sat quietly gathering dust in your head for months (or years), this is your sign. Go check it out: https://www.writeyourbusinessbook.com/august-2026-cohort
📌 The Adaptation Economy
For years, I have been thinking about how economies evolve. We began by gathering natural resources. Then came agriculture, manufacturing, products, services, and eventually what many called the Information Age or the Idea Economy. Today, I think we are entering something different. I call it The Adaptation Economy. Information is no longer scarce. Ideas are no longer scarce. Even expertise is becoming more accessible than ever before. What is becoming increasingly valuable is the ability to learn, adapt, and apply new knowledge in meaningful ways. Artificial Intelligence is accelerating this shift. New tools appear almost weekly. Business models evolve overnight. Skills that seemed cutting-edge a year ago can already feel routine. Waiting for things to "settle down" may no longer be a realistic strategy. The people and businesses that thrive will not necessarily be those who know the most. They will be those who adapt the best! That does not mean chasing every new trend. It means developing the confidence to evaluate new ideas, discard those that do not fit, embrace those that do, and continue moving forward without becoming overwhelmed. To me, that is the real opportunity. The future does not belong to those with the biggest libraries of information. It belongs to those who can turn information into understanding, understanding into action, and action into meaningful results. Perhaps the most important question we can ask ourselves today is not: "What do I need to know?" Instead, it is: "How quickly can I learn what I need when the world changes again?" I believe that question will define success for the next decade.
