Why would you want to work with me?
Hi, I'm Cathy. I've been a classroom teacher for 18 years. I've watched what the secondary years do to kids who don't fit — the slow accumulation of failure, the behavioral referrals, the anxiety, the families who keep hoping this year will be different. And I've watched equally what happens when a family finally makes a different choice and doesn't know where to start. I specialize in middle and high school for a specific reason: these are the years where decisions actually have consequences. A wrong curriculum in 3rd grade is frustrating. A wrong plan in 9th grade affects transcripts, college options, and a young person's sense of what's possible for them. These years deserve a guide, not just a list of resources. I work with all kinds of families. Some have neurodivergent kids whose brains were never going to thrive in a standard classroom. Some have gifted kids who are technically fine but completely unchallenged and quietly struggling socially. Some are leaving school because it stopped being safe — physically, emotionally, or both. All of them have one thing in common: they know the current situation isn't working and they want someone to help them figure out what will. I know the Las Vegas landscape, as someone who has taught in CCSD, online and in local charters. If you're navigating CCSD charters, dual enrollment at CSN or Nevada State, or trying to understand what homeschooling actually requires in Nevada — I can walk you through all of it. I also work with families online, so location is never a barrier. My own three kids have navigated public school, charter schools, homeschooling, online school, gifted programming, and active preparation for competitive academic pathways including boarding school. I'm not giving advice I read in a book. I'm giving advice I've lived — and rebuilt after it didn't work — more than once. In a single 90-minute consultation, we'll build your child's learning profile, clarify what your family actually needs, create a specific and affordable plan, and identify exactly where to start. You'll leave with a real next step.
