If you could sound like any guitarist in the world…

… dead or alive, who would it be?

At one point in my development, it was Jimi Hendrix, then it was Kirk Hammett from Metallica, later it became Andres Segovia, then Wes Montgomery, then Joe Pass, then Pat Metheny, nowadays it’s John Scofield and Mike Stern.

From each one of these heroes of mine, I’ve learned something that has become a part of me, making me the player I am today.

Do I sound like any of them, not necessarily, but I can play some of their licks, songs, etc, but who do I actually sound like then..?!

I sound like me.. who God has created me to be, and whether you believe in God or not, it’s about learning from your heroes and then realizing that no matter what you do, you won’t sound like them.

But you can sound like you… you might say “I’m just not there yet, I’m still learning.”

That’s ok, take your time, don’t give up, but someday maybe soon, you’ll look back and think I did learn something from each of my heroes and I sound exactly like me.

Here’s the truth, no one is like you, and no one sounds like you, and that’s what it’s all about.

So don’t give up, keep going and someday soon, you’ll look will realize you sound like you.
