Welcome the Unleash Your Inner Guitar Hero Community
Let me be the first to introduce myself: I'm Mel Williams, I've played guitar for over 30 years, and taught guitar for over 20 years, and now also ukulele, and bass guitar. I've played with and/or for some amazing musicians, like Grammy Award winning saxophonist Chad LB (who has played with Chris Botti, and Taylor Swift), and David Russell (Grammy Award winning classical guitarist) studied with Matt Slotkin DMA from Eastman, and Hugh Douglass (studied with Paul Bollenback), among others. I have played on stages big and small from solo, to orchestras, Big Band, and Small Jazz Combos, led a few of them myself, weddings, funerals, parties, Worship events, etc. Even with all that being said, this isn't about me, its about you. Ultimately, how I can help you Unleash Your Inner Guitar Hero, so for me to do that to the best of my ability I need you to do your part... Are you ready? If so, let's go! Revamping some things for the New Year - 2026 coming soon!
Joe Pass - An absolute Legend!
His album Virtuoso - absolutely revolutionized what I was thought was possible on guitar... I believe it was this album and when I first heard Charlie Parker in music class in college, that made me want to play jazz... from: Jazz Legend Lessons Let's Fall In Love · Ella Fitzgerald · In the early 1970s, Joe Pass was rebuilding his life and career after years of struggle. On New Year’s Eve at Donte’s Jazz Club in Los Angeles, he was booked to play multiple late-night sets. Instead of playing with a band, Joe decided to go out alone with just his guitar... something almost no one was doing seriously at the time. The room was packed, and as the night went on, people realized they were hearing something completely new: full harmony, bass lines, melody, and swing all coming from one guitar. That night caught the attention of producer Norman Granz, who was in the audience. Within months, Pass recorded Virtuoso, the album that redefined solo jazz guitar and launched the most important chapter of his career. What started as a New Year’s gig became one of the most influential moments in jazz guitar history. It’s often said that Joe Pass didn’t just play the new year in... he changed the future of jazz guitar that night.
