Sacsahuamán
The circular structure at Sacsahuamán, often referred to as the Torreón or Muyuq Marka, occupies the highest and most commanding point of the complex overlooking Cusco. Built from massive limestone blocks cut and joined with extraordinary precision, its circular form sets it apart from the surrounding zigzag walls and terraces. Early accounts describe a multi-level construction with restricted access and integrated water channels, suggesting a purpose beyond simple fortification. The geometry, elevation, and craftsmanship indicate the structure held ceremonial, symbolic, and possibly astronomical significance, marking it as a central and carefully planned element within the broader Sacsahuamán complex.
