Space mountain ⛰️ okay, officially it's a hill, but "Pinestand" still towers majestically over Jezero Crater, which our Perseverance rover has been exploring since it landed on Mars in 2021. Perseverance is rolling through the Martian landscape, searching for signs that it could have supported life long ago and helping advance our understanding of the Red Planet as we pursue our goal of landing humans on Mars. As part of this journey, Perseverance is studying how water once flowed across the surface of Mars, from trickling streams to roaring rivers. Scientists think, for example, that the tall sedimentary layers stacked on top of one another on this hill could have been formed by a deep, fast-moving river.
