Student draping examples
Hello Elites, check out just a few of my students drape example for the start of their experimentation process. A reminder that it's best to explore a variety of drape ideas to move on your design process. Ways to achieve this is simply by taking pictures of all angles of what you have created, printing them off and sticking them in your sketchbook and then simply creating lots of initial sketches from your one idea. Change the LENGTH of your design Change the SCALE of a detail Add MULTIPLE layers of fabric to create volume Simple CHANGE the position of a detail from the top to the bottom. Just change, alter, multiply where needed. The best way to document these variations is to sketch, sketch more and then when you have done sketching, sketch more ... distinction grades are won in this process as this really sets you apart from all designers. Happy draping!

✨ Keep Experimenting — Push Your Concept Further! ✨
Now is the time to experiment as much as possible from your design concept. Go back to your original point of reference and ask yourself: How can I transform this into something new? Think about silhouettes, surface detail, techniques, texture, proportion and anything that can inspire an innovative design. I want you all to drape as much as possible. Use fabric, test shapes, pin ideas, and explore volume. Then develop your drape images further by printing them out, sticking them into your sketchbook, and drawing onto them to visualise what the full final design could become. This is where exciting ideas are discovered — through trial, play, and process. Keep exploring, keep experimenting, and don’t hold back. I’ll be posting a few examples shortly 🔥 💬 What have you done this week to experiment with shape, surface, or technique? Share your work below for a shout out ✨

⚡ 3 Months to Go — This Is the Make or Break Moment ⚡
We’ve entered the final 3 months of term, and this is where real change happens. For many students, this is the window that can turn a PASS into a DISTINCTION. Right now, everyone on the course is learning the power of understanding the grading rubric and using it to elevate their work with intention. When you know exactly what assessors are looking for, you can design, develop, and present your portfolio at a much higher level. If you’ve recently joined the community and are interested in applying for the Portfolio Course, now is your time to start thinking about it. 📩 Send me a private message if you’d like advice about the onboarding process and how to get started. Remember — 3 months until the deadline is not too late to make a change. The difference starts with the decision to show up and push your work further. ✨
