Hard side turns
I’m a left foot forward rider, which makes right turns harder than left. I have been working on them but still feel the lack of range of motion when compared to my left turns. This Sunday I was descending and trying to be deliberate about bending my knees and rotating my hips, but still felt limited. Then I noticed that on left hand corners I was squatting over my right leg as well as shifting my hips, but I wasn’t doing it on right corners (I’m guessing I was bending my knees but then standing up again slightly as I shifted my hips). For the rest of the downhill I focused not only on bending my knees, but also squatting on my left leg during right hand turns. This gave me significantly improved range of motion of my hips and vastly improved my right hand cornering. My mental cues for the descent were heavy feet, light hands, eyes up, squat low. It was a ton of fun, but made me realize I really need to work my single leg squats.
