5 Builder Tips for Installing GIB Board (Plasterboard)
(Tomasi Masima – Builder Tips) 1️⃣ Always Fix to Straight Framing Check studs and nogs with a straight edge. If the frame is bowed, your GIB will show every ripple. 2️⃣ Stagger Your Joints Never line up vertical joints on the same stud. Staggering makes the wall stronger and stops cracks. 3️⃣ Use the Right Screw Pattern Edges: 200mm spacing. Field (middle of sheet): 300mm spacing. Too many screws = unnecessary work. Too few = popping. 4️⃣ Keep a 5–10mm Gap Off the Floor GIB should never sit on the floor. Leave a gap and cover it with skirting. Stops moisture wicking up. 5️⃣ Glue + Screw for Best Finish Use construction adhesive on studs, then screw. This reduces movement and helps prevent future cracking
