Between Sky and Sea
I created an image (not the one you see here) for the affirmation songs for the runes, and I wanted to base the images on the elements. But for the water runes, I chose water, which of course, like in most images, turned out blue. That caused a bit of a short circuit for me, since I use green as the background in Runhäxans Tarot for the Cups suit, which represents the water element. Thankfully, in the Tarot deck I’ve stayed aligned with the right energies—there is a water rune among the bindrunes throughout the entire Cups suit. I chose green because the Cups are about emotions, which are connected to the heart chakra. Someone commented that water is blue—but you see, it isn’t. Water has no color at all. We usually perceive it as blue because it reflects the sky. Logically, water also “alters” visible colors in light; the red and yellow wavelengths disappear first, while our eyes pick up the blue light. But then there is also “turquoise water,” which comes from the reflection of the sky mixed with particles from the bottom. I think almost everyone likes turquoise water—it looks inviting. Which is a bit amusing, considering that turquoise energy is about change. I often experience that most people are afraid of change, at least when it’s not self-chosen. Yet my perception is that we have chosen everything in our lives—both challenges and harmony. For me, turquoise is more of a spiritual energy, connected to the thymus chakra, and to changes that arise from an inner longing of the soul for development. But using turquoise for the water element hasn’t felt right. Still, I find it interesting to reflect on the colors of sky and sea. In the text I wrote for the song for Issaz, there is this verse: "North and south, the sacred line All the force that lives between What is still is not the end It’s the place where worlds begin" In that, I was thinking of blue for the sky and green for water—they belong together within the elements. North, sky, is equal to thought, and south, water, is connected to feeling. You know—“no thought without feeling, and no feeling without thought.” In the center between these directions lies the void—everything that is and is not, all the force that is both still and in motion. The deeper meaning in the text is the turquoise energy in the middle of everything—the soul’s longing to develop, to change, to evolve.

About a bind rune
I am working on the translations for the bind runes in the course for Rune magic. Do you know the power of binding two runes together, 50% of each rune to create from the energies: Issaz/Gifuz - Fire/Ether Issaz functions as a central pillar—a stable foundation that supports individual awareness. With the support of Gifuz, which extends from above and below, a balance between heaven and earth is created. Gifuz has its endpoints in the intercardinal directions—north-east, south-east, south-west, and north-west—symbolizing a broad connection to the world around you. This bind rune can also be seen as a person with arms raised, and legs spread wide, representing openness and receptivity. Within this bind rune, the six-pointed star appears—a symbol of what is above and what is below—indicating a union between the physical and the spiritual. This bind rune carries power and balance, along with awareness of your role in the universe. When you create it, you strengthen awareness of all your energies and accept both your positive and negative sides, as well as everything in between. You become aware of your own power, overcome pressure and stress, and recognize your strength, endurance, and presence. You stand firmly in who you are—you know what you can do, what you want, and how to manifest yourself and your goals. Issaz–Gifuz manifests your inner stillness and happiness. With this bind rune, you create respect for yourself and in your interactions with others. You create what you focus on—and this influences all aspects of your life: Fire–Ether Issaz represents fire, while Gifuz embodies the energy of ether—the essence of spirituality and the existence of the soul. Within this bind rune, there is an inherent stillness, above which identity hovers. Fire acts as the foundation, strengthened by all elements, making it especially powerful. With this bind rune, there is a deep awareness of yourself and your place in the world. Use Issaz–Gifuz when you want to increase awareness of yourself on all levels—how you act, experience, express, react, and think. This bind rune is about strengthening yourself and your awareness of your potential. It also helps you not to fear your inner darkness, but instead to embrace your whole being.
