When Money Becomes a Weapon, Sovereignty Becomes Sacred
I just saw a powerful video by Tonya Evans on LinkedIn, and I reposted it there because it names a truth many are only beginning to see. You will find the link to the video at the end of this post: "Some say crypto is about hiding," says Tonya Evans. The truth is that for many across the world, it has been about survival, freedom, and dignity. For Nigerian feminists whose bank accounts were frozen, it was about surviving. For Afghan women fleeing the Taliban, a Bitcoin wallet meant freedom that could cross borders. For the 1.3 billion unbanked, it’s the difference between being invisible and being seen. "Cryptocurrency has become a lifeline for dissidents, the disenfranchised, and marginalized communities around the world," says Tonya Evans. Tonya Evans is a respected legal scholar and global voice on crypto and financial sovereignty whose work is grounded in history, law, and the protection of human dignity. She is also the author of Digital Money Demystified. Because of the urgency of this moment, I plan to bring her into King’s Circle in February, so this community can engage her directly — not as theory, but as lived reality. I am committed to making sure you get the tools to thrive not only spiritually but financially. 👑 Circle — where have you witnessed financial tools used to protect life, freedom, or rightful agency? When Money Becomes a Weapon, Sovereignty Becomes Sacred
Audre Lorde, Bitcoin, and the Spirit of the Ancestors
Last night I had a pleasant surprise. I opened The Bitcoin Leap: How Bitcoin Is Transforming Africa and discovered that Chapter 4 opens with a quote from Audre Lorde. That stopped me in my tracks. The quote from Audrey says: "there is no hierarchy of oppressions." Once again, the spirit of the ancestors is speaking to us. Audrey is still making her presence known. Several members of the King’s Circle—including Akua Naru—are longtime fans of Audre Lorde, yet are only now beginning to explore the power of Bitcoin. That connection matters. Lorde was never just a writer; she was a strategist for liberation. What made this even more personal for me is that I interviewed Audre Lorde and photographed her for the Virgin Islands Daily News back in 1989. I’ve attached that article here, along with a video of Charlene Hill Fadirepo, the author of The Bitcoin Leap, speaking in an interview with the BBC. The title of Chapter 4 is “Black Oppression Around the World.” Let’s be real: the mainstream crypto conversation—dominated by white “crypto bros”—almost never talks about how Bitcoin can empower Black and brown communities. This book does. Some chapter titles say it all: - Bitcoin for African Activism and Economic Prosperity - Bitcoin and Financial Inclusion in Africa - Bitcoin as a Tool for Generational Wealth - Women in Bitcoin - Africa Is the Future of Bitcoin - Charlene Hill Fadirepo comes from a background in banking, engineering, and Bitcoin activism, and she’s the founder of Mango Digital Strategies. She understands Bitcoin not just as technology or speculation, but as a tool for liberation. This is a must-read book. I’m going to do my best to bring Charlene into the King’s Circle as a guest. She needs our support—and more importantly, this conversation needs her voice. "For Africa, transitioning to Bitcoin as a currency is not merely a luxury about an absolute necessity. I believe it represents a moral obligation for humanity. Bitcoin safeguards human rights," says Charlene in The Bitcoin Leap.

He Lost His Home to Fire — But He's Showing Up To Teach Anyway
Our guest today, Rahkim Sabree, didn’t just write a book about Overcoming Financial Trauma — he embodies the work. Late last year, Rahkim lost his home in a devastating fire. In the midst of exhaustion, uncertainty, and rebuilding from the ground up, he could have easily said no to meeting with us. Instead, he said yes. Rahkim believes there is something sacred in his loss — that even life-altering moments can carry meaning, clarity, and divine alignment. If you’ve ever faced a setback that tested your faith, your finances, or your future, this conversation will meet you where you are — and point toward what’s possible beyond the pain. Let’s show up, give this brother the welcome he deserves, and support his book. As the founder of King’s Circle, I remain committed to elevating voices that matter. These financial conversations aren’t optional — they are essential to building the empires we seek to build. Come join us at 12 PST/3 EST: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89499648545?pwd=PpZzC2iVy7EQOBIcsAElfeyTHt4xM5.1

Can Financial Growth and Spiritual Growth Coexist?
After I sent out my last newsletter, someone replied with this: “I question whether an interest in financial growth and spiritual evolvement are compatible objectives. You might reflect on this.” I get comments like this from time to time. There’s a deeply rooted belief that if we talk about money, wealth, or financial growth, we must be abandoning our spirituality. That belief is exactly why I’m glad the author of Overcoming Financial Trauma, Rahkim Sabree, is speaking in the King’s Circle on January 17 at 12 PM PST / 3 PM EST. Rahkim is a leading voice in financial wellness. He writes for Forbes and has been featured in The New York Times for his work at the intersection of money, mental health, and personal development. He’ll be sharing insights and perspectives around money, healing, and awareness. For me, conversations about finance and wealth creation aren’t about greed. They’re about stability. How do we live more stable, grounded, and fulfilling lives? Spiritual communities often avoid honest conversations about money. Yet the reality is this: many of us are stressed about our financial situation. And living in constant financial stress is harmful to our health, our relationships, and our ability to fully show up in life. So, I’m curious—what questions do you hope to explore with Rahkim in this conversation? If you’d like to go deeper ahead of time, consider supporting his work by purchasing Overcoming Financial Trauma. Supporting his book helps amplify important conversations like this within our community. This is a dialogue worth having—openly and honestly.
