YOUR HOOK DOESN’T HAVE TO BE NICE. 👀
Yesterday I opened my sneak peek Skool video with: “You know what my biggest mistake has been? Adding value without increasing my price.”
That’s a negative leaning hook.
The words “biggest mistake” immediately create tension and curiosity. You want to know... what mistake?
But here’s the strategy.
The negative angle wasn’t directed at my audience. I made MY MISTAKE the hook.
And it was TRUE. I had continued adding more value to The Digi Collective without increasing the price.
So now the hook isn’t just getting attention. It gives me a natural bridge into the message, the price increase, and the urgency around the deadline.
The tension got your attention. The truth gave me somewhere relevant to take it.
That’s the part I want y’all to pay attention to.
Negative leaning hooks don’t always have to sound like: “YOU’RE doing this wrong.”
Sometimes the stronger angle is:
“Here’s what I got wrong.” and often times people are all ears! 👂
Experiment with tension, mistakes, misconceptions, unpopular truths and curiosity while still sounding like YOU.
And go back through the Hooks Module in the classroom. The videos were created a while ago (6 months is now awhile 😵‍💫) but the strategy and formulas are still relevant. I literally pulled from that strategy for my own campaign yesterday. 🎬
Because let’s be real... 😫 people WILL stop for negativity, tension or confrontation. The strategy is knowing how to use it without losing your voice.
