Happy new year everyone!! I hope everyone is resting well and getting ready for a creative 2026. I'm continuing to organize my work area as I settle on a routine that allows me the most space. I've also been playing around with my oil pastels as usual and doing some blending exercises.
I combined a few exercises into one. I wanted to see how the Sennelier pastels blended with diffetent objects so I organized them by my fingers, paper towels, blending stumps, and brushes. I also broke it down based on a dry vs damp paper towel and if i used oil with the brushes.
For the colors, I chose to use complimentary colors based off of my color wheel so I can get used to seeing them on paper. I also wrote down the number of the colors I used so I could keep track of which colors worked and which clashed.
This was just a fun and easy activity to do that was low risk and high reward. It not only helped me understand how these pastels worked but it helped me practice what I learned in the color theory course about hue, saturation and values.
As an addon, I found this creator on youtube named Yayen who works in oil pastels. He has really great tutorials and even an hour long video about the history of color and culture meanings around the world. If you are studying the color theory course, I'd recommend checking it out. 🙂
