The Importance of Experimenting
Hey everyone! I haven't been posting any new drawings lately because I've been focusing on understanding my new oil pastels. The jump from my other pastels to Sennelier was so large for me that they've been feeling like a whole new medium. They're soft, buttery, have a higher saturation of color, and at times feel more like oil painting than pastels. I wasn't happy with my work anymore so I needed to start from square one.
Taking this time to experiment with techniques and the tools I have on hand has truly been educational for me. I have a much better understanding about layering, transparency, color theory, and detail work. It may be hard to see in the photos but I wrote down the colors I used and which tools gave me some of the best detail. Also, it was just fun for me to do whatever I wanted and freely make mistakes, which turned into lessons. These exercises will serve as references for new pieces. I can't wait to show what I've learned!
Ps. The art manager also approves of my progress.
