If you're new to writing the words plotter, pantster or in-between are going to sound like a foreign language to you. To experienced writers, it's a way of life and a huge debate. Let me explain: ▶A plotter is someone who take the time to carefully plot out their book idea. Some plotters cover their walls with post-it notes, charts, and maps. Some will spend a small amount of time others will spend years. ▶A panster is someone who gets the idea, knows their genre and audience and just goes with it. ▶In-between (me) is a mix of both. I'm not going to say their is a RIGHT or wrong way, but in my professional opinion (and I want to hear your thoughts) here's what I think: ✳Plotting is great - unless it keeps you rigid and stops you from starting your book. Its a great method for someone who needs details and a path that is clear. ✳Panster works too, it allows the creativity to flow, but if you don't know your genre or your audience this process can be time-consuming and you may have a lot to fix. ✳In-Between (my style) gives you the plot and path, but in a way that allows you to make changes as you they pop up in your writing. It also gives you an idea of the beginning, middle and end - while allowing you to write by the seat or your pants. It's like a road map but the side trips aren't planned yet.
