Mock Auditions/IPA practice
Hi, friends! I wanted to put some feelers out and see if there might be any interest in a couple of things I'm wanting to do.
1) In theatre school, we learned how to use the International Phonetic Alphabet as a tool to assist in accent work. As a voice actress, I have to do accents allll the time (I just landed a role where I'm doing something New Yorkesque). I want to review the IPA since it can get a little rusty and it's always great to have an extra tool in your pocket. I was thinking about getting on a call and going over the symbols and the sounds they stand for and was wondering if anyone would be interested in learning?
2) In voice acting, you're probably going to be auditioning a lot. And sometimes those auditions don't give you very much to go on. While audio drama auditions might give you sides with context, others like video games etc might just give you the lines straight so it's up to you to make a choice. If anyone is interested, I thought it might be fun to do some mock auditions using something like Casting Call Club. I'll find some decent copy on there and we can try it out, have some feedback, and go again, looking at different ways we could approach a line. If you want you can even record and submit the audition for real. Auditions can be pretty daunting and practice can be so helpful! If it would be helpful, I can even show an audition or two of my own, perhaps a successful and a not successful one.
If you're interested in either of these things, comment below and I'll see about setting something up. If it's one of the specific ones, comment IPA or Mock auditions!
Note: I'm not a coach, but I love learning/teaching, sharing, and discovering. In theatre school I found it helpful to work through auditions with my peers.
