The Photo Shoot That Changed Everything
A year and a half ago, I booked something that terrified me: a body confidence photo shoot.
I was 70 pounds heavier than I am now. I had spent years hiding from cameras, deleting myself from photos, convinced I was this horrendously fat and ugly person who ruined every picture.
But I'd seen the photographer's work with other larger women, and they looked absolutely radiant. Still, my brain was convinced I'd be different—the first person to walk away hating what I saw.
The morning of the shoot, I was sick with nerves.
I genuinely thought there was no way I would love my photos the way I loved everyone else's. I was certain I'd be the exception to all those beautiful, confident women I'd admired online.
When the photographer showed me the images at the end... I was absolutely gobsmacked.
For the first time in my life, I looked at a photo of myself and thought: "I just look normal." Not extraordinary. Not filtered or posed into something I wasn't.
Just... normal. Human. Real.
I wasn't this terrible thing that I imagined I saw in mirrors and photos. I was just a person. A normal person who deserved to take up space, to be seen, to exist without shame.
That photo shoot happened before I lost a single pound. The transformation wasn't physical—it was in how I finally learned to look at myself with love instead of hatred.
Sometimes the most radical thing you can do is show up scared and let someone else reflect back your humanity when you've forgotten it exists.
If you're hiding from photos, from mirrors, from being seen—you're not as terrible as your brain is telling you. You're just human. And that's more than enough. 🤍
I’ve added details of the photographer I used in the resource's section.

Here's what I'd try: "Stop sleepwalking through your life. Wake up, show up, and remember what it feels like to be actually alive again.
