He calls us to โmake every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, selfโcontrol; and to selfโcontrol, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.โ Sometimes we shy away from effort, fearing it sounds like โworksโwonโ salvation. But Peter is clear: effort is not about earning salvation. Itโs about living it out. Grace calls us to action, and the Spirit empowers us to grow in Christโlikeness. โ Faith in motion โ true faith produces effort, not complacency. โ Step by step growth โ goodness โ knowledge โ selfโcontrol โ perseverance โ godliness โ kindness โ love. โ Spiritโpowered effort โ the Holy Spirit works in us to produce fruit that reflects Jesus. โ Productive discipleship โ these qualities make us effective and fruitful in our knowledge of Christ. โ Influence on others โ Christโlikeness is not just personalโit impacts those around us. Grace is not opposed to effort; it is opposed to earning. Effort is how we live out the gift of salvation.
