Peterβs words remind us that faith is not passiveβit is active.
He calls us to βmake every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, selfβcontrol; and to selfβcontrol, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love.β
Sometimes we shy away from effort, fearing it sounds like βworksβwonβ salvation.
But Peter is clear: effort is not about earning salvation. Itβs about living it out.
Grace calls us to action, and the Spirit empowers us to grow in Christβlikeness.
β Faith in motion β true faith produces effort, not complacency.
β Step by step growth β goodness β knowledge β selfβcontrol β perseverance β godliness β kindness β love.
β Spiritβpowered effort β the Holy Spirit works in us to produce fruit that reflects Jesus.
β Productive discipleship β these qualities make us effective and fruitful in our knowledge of Christ.
β Influence on others β Christβlikeness is not just personalβit impacts those around us.
Grace is not opposed to effort; it is opposed to earning.
Effort is how we live out the gift of salvation.
