Day 12 — The Point Was Never to Rush
Today is Day 12 of the 12 Days of Joy.
If you’re on Day 12, that’s wonderful.
If you’re on Day 7 or Day 3, that’s also wonderful.
This was never about rushing through it.
The real power of this journey is not checking off prompts.
It’s savoring the experience long enough to feel it in your body.
Joy is not decoration.
It lowers stress hormones.
It stimulates dopamine and serotonin.
It helps regulate your nervous system.
And when your nervous system is more regulated, you are more resourced — which makes sustainable habit change possible.
That’s why this community is called the Joyful Medicine Collective.
And why I teach the Joyful Medicine Method.
Joy and mindfulness are not extras.
They are foundational tools for health.
We know that chronic stress has a measurable impact on blood pressure, inflammation, metabolic health, and longevity. A recent study demonstrated a direct relationship between stress and mortality in the Black community. Cumulative stress has real health consequences.
This is not soft it is essential.
As we move through the rest of the month, we’ll be focusing more intentionally on mindfulness — simple, practical ways to regulate stress and build resilience in daily life.
Before we close out Heart Month and Black History Month, we’ll also be hosting a Heart Health Masterclass on Tuesday evening. We’ll talk about the numbers that matter, what truly moves the needle for heart health, and the lifestyle shifts that make the biggest difference.
