Advice/Resources for Syntropy in School Setting
Hey y’all. At the beginning of the year I started working for a homeschool coop and have essentially been teaching an earth skills/gardening class, though they title it permaculture. It’s ages 6-14, mixed, though I’m hoping this next semester we’re able to organize the classes more intentionally to group the kids by age. While the past few months our learning space has been mostly outdoors (a tiki structure & raised beds), it looks like we’ll now have access to an indoor classroom and a potential new growing space. My plan for growing is to establish a patch of support species to keep things low cost & allow for potential food forest if things on this piece of land continue to feel positive for the school. I also hope to teach the kids with more structure about native Florida ecology, forest succession, plant dynamics, soil biology, and more. Are any of you teachers? Do you have curriculum developed? Have advice in this context? Any other thoughts? I want to be of service to the goals of this school as best I can and also take advantage of the opportunity to establish a system of support plants (potentially with no irrigation) and would appreciate any input. Thank you!

Anybody know of any paid internships/jobs in the permaculture/agroforestry space in central fl? Preferably the St Cloud or Orlando area?

THE FLORIDA PIONEER FESTIVAL
THE FLORIDA PIONEER FESTIVAL https://www.floridapioneerfestival.com WHAT IS THE FLORIDA PIONEER FESTIVAL? The Florida Pioneer Festival is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to growing roots in our community by preserving heritage, promoting sustainability, and fostering self-reliance. This event is a reimagining of the beloved Pioneer Park Days of Zolfo Springs, honoring our past while looking toward the future. The two-day festival blends tradition with innovation—featuring live music, hands-on workshops, and two full days of education with nationally recognized names like Joel Salatin, Laura Cox, Rachel Hester, and more. As one of Florida’s first major homesteading conferences and festivals, it offers something for everyone—farmers, families, seasoned homesteaders, and those just beginning their journey. With roots in community and self-reliance, the festival provides both practical skills and joyful experiences, bridging generations and creating connections. While homesteading gatherings are growing across the country, this is Florida’s own—designed for our climate, our land, and our communities. Together, we’ll celebrate time-honored traditions while embracing modern-day techniques, offering a uniquely Florida take on this powerful movement. Join us November 7–8, 2025 at Pioneer Park in Zolfo Springs for a weekend of learning, inspiration, and family fun—where history meets homesteading, and community takes root.
Used Billboard Tarps?
Someone had mentioned on the previous call that they got some used billboard tarps to kill their lawn. Where did you get them? Was it online?
