Advice/Resources for Syntropy in School Setting
Hey y’all. At the beginning of the year I started working for a homeschool coop and have essentially been teaching an earth skills/gardening class, though they title it permaculture. It’s ages 6-14, mixed, though I’m hoping this next semester we’re able to organize the classes more intentionally to group the kids by age. While the past few months our learning space has been mostly outdoors (a tiki structure & raised beds), it looks like we’ll now have access to an indoor classroom and a potential new growing space. My plan for growing is to establish a patch of support species to keep things low cost & allow for potential food forest if things on this piece of land continue to feel positive for the school. I also hope to teach the kids with more structure about native Florida ecology, forest succession, plant dynamics, soil biology, and more. Are any of you teachers? Do you have curriculum developed? Have advice in this context? Any other thoughts? I want to be of service to the goals of this school as best I can and also take advantage of the opportunity to establish a system of support plants (potentially with no irrigation) and would appreciate any input. First yuca harvest
Hey y’all! I got back home on Thursday evening after 6 weeks away and one of the cassava plants had fallen over. Initially I just gave it a big trim, but realized it was ready to harvest! This is “togo” cassava from Cody cove farm. Did super well. Haven’t done a taste test yet but looking forward to it! This plant was started from a cutting at the end of January, so about 8 and a half months ago.

@Mike Garcia i hear ya! i did chop and drop the leaves at least. I definitely see the potential as a support species. Removing the big mass of it has left quite an empty space in that area. I'm growing out some mexican sunflower cuttings right now to fill some of that in.

Hey folks! My name is Margarita and I’m in Miami growing for a little over a year. Here’s a before and after of an area I started planting about a year ago. I’ve been focusing on short lived perennials at my family home & learning so much! Getting into a practice of chop & drop while diversifying has been really fun! Third picture is a banana circle I planted at a school I work at, of 4 pups from my first banana plant, which will hopefully be fruiting this winter/spring. I’ve loved watching 🍌 growing!
